@Swanner

Our Google Nest Battery Camera shows the battery percentage ONLY when it is NOT plugged in. When it IS plugged in (with the optional power cable), with the plug securely seated under the camera, we get a live view of the camera when it is selected in the Google Home app, and if we select Settings | Battery, it shows as "Plugged in" with an infinity sign in a circle.

@Swanner

Is the cord running towards the FRONT of the camera when it is plugged in? It looks awkward but that's the way it has to be plugged in.
