Nest App not working with second generation nest doorbell

Epiman123

I just installed my second generation nest doorbell wired, and found out that you cannot view it through the Nest app. It’s only viewable through the Google Home app now which makes no sense. Now I have first generation next hello and the first generation outdoor camera as well as my thermostat on the Nest app but the new doorbell I just added can’t be added for some strange reason. I contacted Google for help and they told me that yes your new doorbell will not work on the nest app. Anyone encounter the situation and if yes, is there a workaround as Google was really no help.

Hi @Epiman123

Google is moving everything to the Google Home app.
When you migrate your Nest account to the Google account, all supported devices within the Nest App should also be visible/usable in the Google Home app. 🙂

Overall it is not possible to use your new doorbell within the Nest app, but many things within the Nest app should also be available in the Google Home app. You will lack some features from my understanding. 🙄

Thanks and yes I noticed some things r missing. Quite unfortunate that this is happening.

I was also told that because of my issue with video feed not being available from the nest cameras on the google hub display that getting a newer version (next generation) doorbell which I did  that the  problem would be corrected however it has not and it is still doing it where the camera feed is unavailable.and only way to fix it is to cycle on and off camera or reboot tte Google hub display. Not happy nor impressed at this point in buying something that was not needed.

Hi @Epiman123

Most of the time, the video feed on the Google Hub first gen is not working for me either.

The second-gen Hub is working more consistently for me.  😊

Thanks. I have 3 of them so I do not want to fork out 400 to 500 bucks to replace them because of a generation thing….

Hi @Epiman123

I fully understand. I waited until Black Friday and bought one for 15 Euro.
Maybe the new Fuchsia OS can fix things. 🙂

History and notifications for our older Google Nest cameras and doorbells are still managed in the Google Nest app and on the home.nest.com website; only the live feed can be viewed in the Google Home app and on the home.google.com website. And we can only view our newer cameras in the Google Home app and on the home.google.com website.

I don't know whether Google Nest will eventually add full support for the older Google Nest cameras to the Google Home app. In Sept. 29, 2021 they said: "we are committed to bringing the experiences and Nest devices you have come to love in the Nest app into the Home app" (https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Blog/Message-from-our-GM-Updates-for-our-Nest-customers/ba-p/...), but there has been no update since.

We are able to view video feeds for all of our older cameras and doorbells on all of our Nest Hubs, but it seems a lot of customers are reporting problems with this.

For all these reasons I returned the new doorbell and and bought a NEST HELLO used on eBay.  I want to stay in the NEST APP until such time that the Google Home app has 99% of the NEST app features.

I wish I'd done that. I bought a second gen doorbell like a sucker.

The Google Home app is awful. It's built with some kind of broken web framework, so it frequently draws and animates all weird. Just today, while working with support on some as-yet-unresolved issue with notifications, I needed to re-add all my family members. The entry field to invite people would take one character and then dismiss the keyboard. Happened on two devices. I finally had to copy & paste their email addresses in.

Every 'new' Google product is worse than the one it hopes to replace.
