Nest Cam Outdoor HD Security Camera 1st Gen - Connection Issues

I bought my in-laws google wifi mesh system, I installed and setup the new network for them. Unfortunately, they lost access to their cameras. I was able to connect them to two of their new modern nest/google cameras, that have a reset button located on the back. Took awhile but eventually connected.

However, two of their older cameras, have a long hard wired cord, there doesn't appear to be a reset button. I followed the screen prompts to try to connect them and they fail. I have a QR for both, and it still fails. I tried Gen 1 & Gen 2. They had already removed the cameras from their app after new network setup. Even changing back to their old network name I am unable to connect to the cameras. I can't find a way to reconnect them. I currently have them disconnected since this morning, I plan to try again after work to get them reconnected.

Complaint: I use RING cameras at my house, I must say their setup/reset process is faster, smoother, and less issue prone, even on their older models.

Thanks!

The older 1st gen cameras need to be reinstalled in the Google Nest app, UNLESS your in-laws are on the beta "Public Preview" version of the Google Home app AND "transferred" those cameras from the Google Nest app to the Google Home app, in which case they have to be reinstalled in the Google Home app. If the latter is true, some customers in this forum have reported issues when reinstalling "transferred" 1st gen cameras in the Google Home app.

Beyond that, it depends on what is failing when you try to install. The older cameras do NOT have a reset button, so they can only be factory reset by removing them from the Google Nest app. I think this has to be done while still on the old Wi-Fi network, but Google Nest never states this explicitly.  (Google Nest does not seem to have any factory reset instructions yet for "transferred" 1st gen cameras and doorbells.)

Also, for some older, untransferred 1st gen cameras, you may be able to go to Settings | Home info | Home Wi-Fi help in the Google Nest app (https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9223711?hl=en&sjid=13559220959213784732-NC#zippy=%2Cuse...), select your camera, select Start | Update settings, and update the Wi-Fi settings there. Again, Google Nest does not make it clear whether this has to be done while on the old or the new Wi-Fi network.

One last comment; when installing all of our 1st and 2nd gen cameras and doorbells, we always performed the install steps with the camera or doorbell close to a Wi-Fi access point, and them mounted them outside.  You may not be able to do this with already-mounted cameras if the cable has been fed through a wall.

Thanks, took me hours trying to figure it out, once I used the Nest app it only took 30 minutes per camera to finish setting back up.

Google Nest's 2-app environment certainly makes things challenging for customers.
