I've read in several locations online and on Google that the Google Nest Cam 2nd gen GA01998-US will work on a 5g network. BUT, I've also read where it will NOT work on a 5g wifi network. This is the only network I have and I would like to add a camera to my Google Home system. The information seems vague and confusing. I bought a camera that wouldn't connect, and ended up being defective, so I am returning it. But I don't know if I should purchase another one of the same model. Any thoughts or suggestions about an indoor wired or wireless camera that works on 5g (whether or not it can be connected with Google Home)? Thanks!

Hello, I'm and end user like you. I don't have that camera but here are the specs and it says it should work.

I thought all WIFI routers these days have 2.4Ghz. The one you have doesn't?
Also, in what way was the camera defective?

They work of 5Ghz just fine. The issue comes with range. 5Ghz only travels about half the distance of 2.4 so on the edge of it's range you can have several issues pop up. From disconnects, to jumping bands, to unusable speeds

How about a WIFI-repeater of some kind? I use the Eero Mesh routers and they are fantastic at making sure there is a strong signal everywhere with very fast thru-put.

Hello everyone - Thanks for your quick responses! The camera was set up right next to the wifi tower, with a strong signal there and throughout that room. I followed every tip I could find to try to get it to connect, even moving it away from the tower, but it wouldn't connect. I don't have a router connected to the tower, and don't have any options except 5g. Eventually, the green light showing that the camera is on and ready to connect stopped working. I have returned the camera and chosen a Reolink camera, which is working just fine.
I truly appreciate all of your suggestions.
