Nest Cam with Floodlight getting two IP's

I've recently noticed that my driveway camera (Nest Cam with Floodlight) goes offline constantly. It has gotten to a point where it seems that it stays offline more than online. I have it connected to my UDM PRO via a NanoHD access point. I finally had some time to troubleshoot and found that the camera is grabbing two different IP's and it shows up as two different devices on the client page. One IP for the 2.4ghz radio and another IP for the 5ghz radio. Both do have different MAC addresses of course. Also when I PING both of the IPs from my Chromebook I get a "DUP!" reported.

64 bytes from 192.168.107.49: icmp_seq=1170 ttl=63 time=11.4 ms
64 bytes from 192.168.107.60: icmp_seq=1000 ttl=63 time=8.05 ms (DUP!)

I've ran into duplicate IP issues before on devices( usually seen in a static IP environment ), but this is the first time I've seen a Nest or Google camera grab two different DHCP IP's on the same device. Any thoughts on why this is happening or has this been seen before? Thanks in advance.

Hi Mik3,

Thanks for reaching out. Let’s see what’s going on — a few questions: what’s the make and model of your router? How far is the camera from the router? Also, is the camera connected to a 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz Wi-Fi network?

Thanks,

JT

Hey JT thanks for the reply. Sorry for the delay I got called out of town on business and work has had my full attention.

The router is the UDM Pro and the camera connects to a ceiling mounted NanoHD AP.

The AP is about 8-10 ft away.

As I originally posted it is connected to both 2.4G and 5G simultaneously. One IP address on the 2.4 and another IP on the 5.

It is acting like there is an IP conflict but it has separate MACs (one for each radio I imagine) and it's getting two IPs. I find it odd and figured I'd ask if this has been noticed before. I have six Nest IQs and Google Nest Cameras but this one is the only one that does this.

Thanks,

Mike

Hey there,

Got it — thanks for the information. Could you update the Wi-Fi frequency of your camera to 2.4 GHz then let me know how it goes? To learn more, have a look at this guide: Change camera and doorbell Wi-Fi settings.

Thanks for chiming in, Emerson,

Best

JT
