Nest Camera (Battery) keep going offline

SEF-92

My cameras (battery) outdoor keep going offline randomly not always the same one. I have 4 not including my doorbell. They’ve all gone off at least 3 times at random times. Doesn’t have to to do with distance as my home network is set up to reach home of about 2500 sq st and is not over 1600. My closest cameras to my router goes offline too and are close! It’s getting annoying as I’m starting to feel they are unreliable. I have 1 gig speeds and get plenty of speed at each camera location.

Hello SEF-92,

Thanks for reaching out here in the Community and for sharing with us your concern. To confirm, are you getting any error messages? Have you gone through any troubleshooting steps? Try restarting your Wi-Fi router and check their behavior.

Keep us posted.

Regards,

Emerson

Not an error they go offline. And I have done the steps as a bit back almost all of my cameras went offline for a few days for no reason. Went through customer support which did nothing they came all on a two days after on their own. Which sucks because the issue still happens. Not a network issue like I stated already it’s the cameras.

@SEF-92

I'd recommend restarting your device. This process should keep all your settings, and reconnect it to the same Wi-Fi network. This is helpful if it ever freezes, has connection problems, or isn't working normally. Please let me know how that goes.

Hey there,

Checking in — did you get a chance to restart your camera as suggested by Brad? If so, how did it go? Let us know if you need anything else.

I appreciate the help here, Emerson and Brad.

Hey there,

Thanks for trying. Let’s further check this — a few questions: how far is the camera from the router? Were there any changes to your Wi-Fi network? Are there devices or appliances (such as baby monitors, microwaves, cordless phones, etc.) near the camera? Also, is your camera connected to a 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz Wi-Fi network?

Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

  1. Close all the apps running in the background of your phone, reopen the Google Home app. Then, check your camera live feed again.
  2. At the highest video quality setting, your camera can use a large chunk of the internet connection to stream video. Slower internet service might not be able to keep up. Check your internet speed here: https://goo.gle/2JaUmYI. The page would show your download speed then click “Show more info” to check your upload speed. Have a look at this article for your guide: Internet bandwidth and speed requirements for Nest cameras.
  3. Open the Home app Google Home app.
  4. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  5. At the top right, tap Settings .
  6. Choose Video.
  7. Under “Video quality,” choose Max or High.
    • High settings uses less bandwidth.
    • Max settings uses more bandwidth.
  8. Restart your phone, turn it off for 60 seconds then turn it on.
  9. If you have a dual band Wi-Fi frequency switch your connection to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi to improve your connection.

Let me know how it goes.

Best,

JT

Like I stated prior all my cameras do it even the ones close by router in my living room at the opposite wall is my backyard camera no obstruction and it does almost daily.

My battery powered Nest camera goes intermittently off-line fora short period at least once a day.  Battery power is good (10 months left) and internet speed is excellent at 316.2 Mbps with upload speed of 22.3 Mbps at the camera.  I have no problems with my other 3 Nest hard-wired cameras going offline.

I have the same problem...

Same issue, camera is literally 10ft from my router and infront of a window.  1gb internet and I have a google pixel 6.  Issue started around mid winter more frequent.  but it would shut itself off for the cold, that acceptable.  now it is above freezing and does this atleast a few times a day.  Fully charged and been restarted, been in IT for 20 year so did all the normal things made sure it was up to date and the app.  need a second camera but with this behaviour may lean to another brand.  Very little avilable for testing or troublshooting the device, be nice if you could atleast recondition the battery or something via the software.

Yeah I want to look for an alternative Google’s support is this basically and we get kudos for it literally with no solutions.

I have the same problem, moreover I can say that the Nest Cam seems offline only for live videos, because it records any possible ones without any problem, notifies them immediately and I can also review them immediately as soon as they are recorded, which makes me assume that in reality the Cam is online and properly connected to the WiFi, only due to some error (software guess) Google Home sees it offline

I have the same problem. Google, when are you going to fix this ?

Having the same issue with this device
Model: Nest Cam (battery)
Device ID: D26895D4044354A8
Serial no.: 21051J3D51NAJK
Software version: nq-user 1.67 OPENMASTER 361459 release-keys stable-channel stable-channel
IP: 10.0.0.239. It is less than 100 feet from my router. I have reliable Comcast 1GB network. Camera is plugged into electricity constantly.  I’m getting frustrated with your products when then don’t work reliably. Please assist.

What is google going to do to resolve this issue. If nothing, then im going to buy a different vendor product...

I'm having the same issue. I have 3 cameras. 1 of them works as expected, the other two are a nightmare. Constantly and randomly going offline. I contacted nest support, did all the resets, and even set up the cameras in a new home with a new nest network to (again) factory reset and install it in the existing Home setup. Totally pointless because I keep receiving that the camera is Offline. So frustrating.

Same issue for me. Camera closest to router constantly offline. Time to return them..

I'm trying to get a solution from Nest support. So far, I have returned two cameras while a third one is working as expected.

I'm basically toying with my network setup, but I don't think that's the problem while one camera is working fine.

Same with me 2 work fine 1 disconnects daily after a few hours. Unlike my old Nest cameras new ones not so much.

So… i called support. They walked me through rebooting the outdoor camera, rebooting my wifi router and that has resolved my issues to date!  Easy fix for me

Care to share the process? Unplug router and hit small button on back of Nest Camera untill yellow lights and chime?

Sesteynh

Sure, Yes dismount the camera, de press the reset button on the back of the camera for 5 seconds, remount the camera.  Depending on your flavor of Wi-Fi router, perform a hard reset (power off). Do these steps in that order.
