I upgraded to Nest Aware last week after I heard a noise at my door and all the free version did was show me a picture of some man with his hand on my doorknob, like he was trying to get in. I need video of that! I need to know what's happening! So I started Nest Aware that night. Checked back several days later to see if anything else strange/scary had happened... and discovered someone from my complex was spending a lot of time on my patio, committing several crimes in the process. Between clues in the video, observations from my patio over the past years, and recollections from an old roommate, it's clear this guy has spent a lot of time on my patio in the past couple of years. Scary, right? So I change the settings to alert me of any motion on my patio. With the light and camera angle, it is very clear to see any and all movement. I expect the notifications to be annoying because the stray cats in my complex love hanging out on my patio, but I need to know when this guy is coming over and what he's doing. The other night I noticed no motion for like six hours, maybe more.
With like fifty stray cats in the complex, and neighbors coming home from work around that time, there's no way there's no motion for six hours. So I'm clicking through to check- was there *really* no movement during that entire stretch of time? No, not only were the cats active, but my recently discovered stalker was on my patio that very night just two hours earlier! Why in the world is the Nest camera not doing the ONE thing it's supposed to do?? I've been clicking through the last 10 days of recorded video and have found at least 20 instances of very clear movement. I get that dark clothes moving through shadows, or a white cat walking over the white patio, can be hard to discern as movement. That I can give a pass at. But a moving bright orange tshirt trespassing and stealing from my patio is hard to miss! What's the point of having a security camera with motion notifications if it won't notify you of motion?
And if I have to go back and watch 10 days' worth of video, can we not watch it at 2x, 3x, or 4x the speed? Clicking to skip fifteen seconds at a time is such a hassle! I would much rather play it on 2x or 3x speed and watch it in the corner of my screen while I work on things. My time this week needs to go to coordinating with police, with friends who are helping me out, with finding a new place, with handymen who can help me fix things so I can move out faster, not towards watching 240 hours' worth of stray cats and neighbors going to work to find out how many times my stalker visited me this week. I tried calling the help line three times tonight and the only time i actually got to talk to a person, they hung up. the other two attempts were just several minutes of dead air after i made my selections in the automated menu.
Does anyone have any solutions to this? To actually catching motion, notifying of motion, or improving the speed of recorded video? Or did you switch to another brand/camera? Many thanks

Hello disciple52,
Thanks for reaching out here in the Community. To know more about this issue, I’d like to confirm, are there other family members who can access the camera? Do they receive any notifications? Has the camera been moved recently? Are there any Activity Zones set up for the camera? Try restarting your Nest Camera and Wi-Fi router. Also, check the app permission on your mobile phone. For Android users, go to System settings Sounds and notification App notifications Nest or Google Home and follow these configurations:
For iOS users, go to Settings Notifications Nest or Google Home and follow these configurations:
Go within your Nest Camera's line of sight and if you still don’t receive notifications, try to:
We don't have any news to share about applying the fast forward feature to the Nest app or Google Home app. We're always looking for ways to improve and we'll take it as feedback.
