Nest Cameras no longer picking up activity

I have several Nest cameras set-up outdoors. They've been there for over a year and are used to monitor my pets outside as well as other critters that end up invading the space of my pets.

Anyway, up until recently Nest was fairly decent at picking up motion whevnever there was an animal around. Lately...it's terrible. Every morning I wake up to "no events" the night before. I have Nest Aware subscriptions attached to my cameras, however, nothing is being recorded because no activity exists. My cameras and aware subscription have essentially become worthless. Yes, I have confirmed there is acitity, but Nest will not pick it up. Home/Away is off (thus cameras should always be on).

Has something recently changed? Are there still settings to increase camera / motion sensitivity (I have found none).

Other than checking for any changes to your Wi-Fi network, I don't have any suggestions about what would make them BOTH go offline.

We've had a battery camera for almost 19 months, plugged in with the optional power cable, and it is always "Live" and online.

You mentioned scanning your doorbell's QR code, and it also seems like you are trying to re-install your camera. Did you first do a factory reset of each?

You misunderstand the issue. They are not offline. Instead, the cameras have hours and hours of no recorded video because of "no events detected" when, in fact, there is motion and animals moving about in front of these cameras.

Gosh, my apologies! My reply was intended for another thread.

In your case, I don't know why your cameras would cease picking up activity. Our battery camera--plugged in with the optional power cable--has never been good at detecting events at night, but does well during the day. Since we have a Nest Aware Plus subscription, however, it does record what happens even if it isn't flagged as an event.

All good. And that is the oddity here. Up until very recently, I could review activities happening at night. It's mainly cats going in and out of an enclosure, but sometimes I get raccoons, opossums, etc.

Currently, every morning I wake up, there is about 10+ hours of "no events detected". I know for a fact that the cats are still in front of these cameras but their movement isn't getting picked up. I also know I had a raccoon visit the other night, and same thing. It's frustrating.

Do you have the  battery cameras, running on battery power? If we unplug our battery camera and walk in front of it to test it, it does NOT detect or record the event.  It only functions well if it is plugged in, and then does much better during the day than at night.

Hi everyone,

@lazybones40890, thanks for reaching out here in the Community. To confirm, have you double checked the options that can trigger the motion alerts? Try disabling and enabling them. After that, try to test it if it makes a difference. You may also try restarting your Nest Camera. Let us know how it goes.

I appreciate the help, MplsCustomer.

Best,

Emerson

I'm dropping by to ensure that everything is covered here. How's it going with your Nest Camera? We would appreciate it if you could share the information I’m asking above. Also, were you able to perform the steps I’m suggesting? We'd be glad to hear from you.

Just one quick final check in here since activity has slowed down. We'll be locking the thread in the next 24 hours, but if you still need help, we would be happy to keep it open. If there's more we can do, just let us know.

Thanks,
