Nest Door Bell- battery to power adapter.

Hi,

We have a battery powered Nest doorbell. We’ve purchased the power adapter, plugged it in to nest and wall. And it seems to still be running on battery and not the power supply. Is there something I’m missing or does it switch to power once the battery is drained?
leaving for holidays so we didn’t want to worry about the battery but now stuck trying to figure this out. Help!!

Unfortunately, the Google Nest Doorbell (Battery) always runs off of the battery, even when connected to power. That's what makes its performance in cold weather so dicey and why we bought the older Google Nest Hello Doorbell instead. Here's what Google Nest itself says: "If you’ve connected your Nest Doorbell (battery) to your existing doorbell wiring, the wires don’t directly power the doorbell. Instead, the battery is trickle charged by the power that comes through the wires, and the doorbell runs off the battery charge. At temperatures between -4°F (-20°C) and 32°F (0°C), the doorbell can continue to work, but the battery will drain because it can’t be charged."
