Nest Doorbell - Blue light intermittant

howhole

We've had the Nest doorbell for a few years.  Was working flawlessly until a week ago.  A message indicated the unit was not connected to wifi.  Tried a restar with no success.  The blue light that is around the doorbell button would illuminate blue for 3 seconds then go off for 20-30 seconds.    Tried removing the unit from the account and reinstalling using the QR code on the back.  No better.  Bought and installed a new internal battery.  No change.  Im at wits end thinking I need to spend another few hundred on a new doorbell.  Any suggestions.

Hi  howhole,

Thanks for reaching out to the community! I'm sorry your Nest doorbell is not connecting to your WiFi. I appreciate you tried to get your Nest Doorbell working again by restarting it and reinstalling it. Let's fix this! To gather some more details, I'd like to ask the following questions:

  • What's your Nest Doorbell model? Here is a link for your reference: Technical specs for Nest cameras and doorbells
  • Are you getting any error messages?
  • How far is the Nest Doorbell from the router?
  • What WiFi frequency band do you try to connect to (2.4 GHz or 5 GHz)?

Let me know if you have any additional information; it’ll be helpful.

Best regards,
Juan

I have the same issue. It’s a 2nd gen nest doorbell. The blue light turns on and off every 20 seconds and won’t work. No error msg, 2.4Ghz network, 15’ from the router.

Hi Plant1,

Thanks for the follow-up and information! Please confirm the following points are all covered:

  • Make sure it’s on the same WiFi network as the selected network for the Nest device.
  • Bluetooth must be enabled, but not connected to any Bluetooth devices.
  • Cellular data must be turned off.
  • On iOS devices with iOS 14 or later, ensure that Local Network Access is enabled for the Nest or Home app.

For now, try factory resetting your Google Nest Doorbell (2nd Gen) to reconnect to WiFi. Here's how:

1. Locate the reset pin hole on the back of the doorbell.

  • Tip: The reset pin on the Nest Doorbell (battery) is located below the USB port on the back of the doorbell.

2. Insert and hold the pin (you can use an unfolded paperclip or a drawing pin):

  • At 10 seconds, the status light will blink yellow four times, and you’ll hear a countdown tone.
  • At 12 seconds, the status light will be a steady, solid yellow while the doorbell starts the factory reset, and you’ll hear a confirmation tone.

3. Release the button. Your doorbell will restore to its factory settings.
4. After the factory reset, your doorbell will appear as 'Offline' in the app until you remove it.
5. To remove it from the app, open the app, then tap the Settings.

  • Remove device
  • Confirm.

Please let me know how it goes. I look forward to your response.

Best regards,
Juan
