Nest Doorbell - No More Chime or Visitor Announcement

I’m having an issue with my Nest Hello doorbell. Recently the chime has not been working or the visitor announcements on my nest speakers. I’ve checked the mechanical chime and there’s nothing blocking the moving parts.

The video quality is great and the WiFi connection is great.

The defect to which I'm referring occurs on WIRED Nest Hello Doorbells. They all have an internal battery that most of us didn't know about. The internal battery apparently is supposed to provide power to the doorbell at the moment when the doorbell button is pressed and power is diverted temporarily to the doorbell chime. But when the internal battery fails (it's failed on all 3 of our Nest Hellos), the result is that when the doorbell button is pressed, the doorbell goes offline for just a minute, the doorbell chime does not ring, no visitor announcements are sent, and no notification is sent to our phones. The workaround of turning off the "Indoor chime" option disables the doorbell chime but allows everything else to work.

@Dillrock

Is your Nest Hello Doorbell by any chance going offline for a minute whenever the doorbell button is pressed?

If so, you could have the same problem that has affected all three of our Nest Hello Doorbells and has affected hundreds of other customers. The internal battery in the Nest Hello Doorbell often fails after a year or two. The workaround is to turn off the "Indoor chime" option (in which case the doorbell no longer goes offline) and rely just on "Visitor announcements" on your Nest speakers. That's what we've done.

Here's a very long thread on the problem:

Oh interesting! No, it doesn’t go offline when I press the button. It’s also a wired connection so it should always have power.

This is so great! Thank you. This fixed it for me. I appreciate all of your explanations!

I am also not getting notifications from my Nest Hello doorbell. Where is it that I can turn off the indoor chime option?

@CW2023

If you go to Settings for your Nest Hello Doorbell in the Google Nest app, the "Indoor chime On/Off" option is the second one listed, under "Camera On/Off".  If you're outside the US, the option might be named differently.
