Nest Doorbell - No events or notification UNLESS pressed

Awff

Hi, Just got a brand new Nest Doorbell battery and I am not getting any notifications or event recordings (vehicles, person, packages, animals) UNLESS it is pressed only; then I will get a notification that the doorbell is rung... Even then, it doesn't recognise a person or my face like my other nest cameras. It just says doorbell pressed and announces "someone is at the door."

I could be standing for ages walking around, waving up close and far the camera and it would never decent a single event or send a notification. I can tell it senses my presence as the doorbell button lights up and the recording light is green

  • I have the nest aware subscription.
  • I have enabled all notifications and permissions on my iPhone 13.
  • I have no presences routines or any other routines tied to any of my cameras
  • Seen events are all toggled ON
  • I have no activity zones set, so it should pick up everything in its view
  • Battery is charged over 90% so it's not on battery saver mode
  • Even set sensitivity to HIGH
  • Tried resetting the device and my phone and reinstalling the app.

Is my doorbell a dud? I have three Nest Battery cams and they work flawlessly. I replaced my $15 doorbell for this only for it to be just be no better.

@Awff

In the Google Home app for your doorbell, under Settings | Events | Seen events, there is a separate toggle switch for turning on an event and for turning on notifications.

If you go to your camera in the Google Home app and click on History and then Full History, are there any Events listed? Note that if your battery doorbell is running on battery power, it is in "Idle" mode and has to wake up to detect and record an event. (We have the battery camera, plugged in with the optional power cable, but if we unplug it, it does NOT detect us walking in front of the camera.  It works fine as long as it is plugged in.)

Note that, unless you have a Nest Aware subscription, you can only see events that occurred in the last 3 hours.

Thanks,

I've visited the seen events section to ensure that the event types and "your notifications" is toggled ON.

In the history, it is mostly only recordings of when the doorbell button is pressed. I also have the full Nest Aware subscription which works for my nest outdoor cameras.

What is even annoying is that, VERY occasionally, it will actually pick up an event. Maybe 10% of the time, which is incredibly inconsistent. So I am getting them, just not as much as I should be. And when i do get them, it is either motion, or person seen but the facial recognition never recognises me even though the play back has my face clear in it. None of this issue is present on the Nest Outdoor cams.

I might have to return this for a replacement.

Mine is operating exactly the same issue. I’ve spent 4 hours in chat support and still it’s not working. Maybe it’s a faulty batch. It’s extremely frustrating and I’ve spent way too long trying to fix the issue. Really disappointed with googled lack of help.

Same here. Got my battery doorbell today and button gives phone notification everytime, events only very rarely.

At the moment it’s just a useless doorbell no better than my 15$ old one

Test motion event if you havent. If it not recognize you as person. My doorbell record events as person but it wont send notification to my phone.

It will work always when button pressed.

But any other events only send a notification and record maybe 10% of the time. I could be standing close t the camera and wave over the lens and still will not detect most times

I have all events on.

So I got a new replacement doorbell. There is a slight improvement that i get person seen notifications and recordings now (although quite delayed)

But other events seem to be missed altogether… it would not detect motion from the door opening, or even when my body is out of the camera field of view and I would wave my hand over the lens - No motion event detected…

all notifications are turned on as before

familiar faces doesn’t seem consistent even when clearly shown in recording.

So here’s what I’ve done. I set up a zone that pretty much just covers the whole field of view and set up my events to on from there. It seems to be a lot more consistent in getting notifications and recordings. It picked up my face as well as parcels when I’m holding a box. One thing it doesn’t pick up however is motion. I’m waving over the lens without my body in the frame, door swinging and it won’t trigger the event.

I’m not sure why this is?? So I then deleted the zone for a sanity check and did a few tests again. Without the zone I barely capture any events! Surely this must be a bug???

Fb support said me:

"Thanks for your screenshot. Since it still capture your event, it is working normally" (it records but no notifications to my phone)

when i asked notification cooldown: "the cooldown timer is 8 minutes for a person, 15 minutes for motion and 25 minutes for sound."

After i get notification, i tested it many times again. After 1h30min and still no notifications. From my sight it wont work normally.

I linked this to fb chat and they said: "Thanks for sharing your link, but, we have no known reports at this time."

It's funny because this thread and myself just reported a problem.  Do they need 1000 reports before they have report.

I'm having the exact same issue, Awff, only my battery-only Nest Aware Doorbell cam is about a year and a half old, and this just started this weekend.

Hello everyone,

Thanks for reaching out here in the Community. To confirm, Is the Airplane or Do Not Disturb mode turned off or on? Have you tried using a different mobile phone and see if you can receive notification there?

Give these steps a try:

   1. Try turning off and on your notification settings.

 For Android users:

  1. Go to the device’s Settings.
  2. Select Apps and notifications.
  3. Select all apps.
  4. Locate the Home app Google Home app or Nest app .
  5. Select Notifications.
  6. Ensure that the toggle is on

For iOS users:

  1. Go to the device’s Settings.
  2. Look for the Home app Google Home app or Nest app .
  3. Select Notifications.
  4. Ensure that the toggle is on.

Looking forward to your response.

I appreciate the help, MplsCustomer.

Best,

Emerson
