Nest Doorbell Wired - no power

Our Nest doorbell seems to have randomly stopped working.  it has no power.  I removed the doorbell and connected the wires but no chime, so I assume it's missing power for some reason.  What could it be?

Hi JulieB1,

Thanks for reaching out to the Community. I'm sorry to hear about the power issues with your Nest Doorbell. But no need to worry, help is here.

Before we get started with further troubleshooting, let me ask you some questions:

  • What Nest Doorbell model do you have? 1st Generation or 2nd Generation?
  • Did the Nest doorbell work when it was first installed? If yes, how long has it been since installation?
  • When did the issue start?
  • Is the doorbell paired to a Nest account?
  • Has there been any recent power outage in the area?

Basic troubleshooting steps you can check in the meantime:

  1. Power Source:
    • Transformer: Ensure the transformer is properly connected and functioning. You can test it with a multimeter if you're comfortable doing so.
    • Wiring: Check the wiring between the transformer, chime, and doorbell for any loose connections or damage.
    • Circuit Breaker: Verify the circuit breaker hasn't tripped.
  2. Doorbell Hardware:
    • Internal Issues: A malfunctioning component within the doorbell could prevent it from powering on. Verify if there is no physical damage visible and let me know.

Additional Tips:

  1. Test with a Multimeter: If you're comfortable with electrical work, use a multimeter to check for voltage at the doorbell's wiring.
  2. Consult an Electrician: If you're unsure about electrical work, consider hiring a professional electrician to diagnose the issue, you may need to contact a Nest pro.

You can also check the following article to check Nest doorbell compatibility and to Install Nest doorbell with an indoor power adapter.

Let me know if you need further assistance.

Hi and thank you so much for your response and info.  I'm not sure if I have a 1st or 2nd generation and it doesn't seem to say on the very small print on the back.  The doorbell works just fine, until we had a new modem installed.   The 2 things seemed to coincide.  The doorbell is/was paired to a Nest account.  There have been no known recent power outages in our area.  I have removed the doorbell and when I touch the 2 wires together that connect to the back, there is on chime.  When the doorbell was connected there were no lights on the doorbell.  It seems to be an absence of electrical power.  I've had a look at the transformer within the chime box and everything looks fine.  There has been no damage to the doorbell itself.

Thanks
