Nest Doorbell (battery) installation in United Kingdom

I recently purchased the Nest Doorbell (battery) in the Black Friday sales to replace our existing (wired) doorbell.

I arranged for a Nest Pro to install the doorbell accepting that it may require a replacement transformer and/or chime. They claimed to be the UK's number 1 installer of Nest products (with other 2000 reviews) so I considered them knowledgeable.

When the technician arrived, he seemed less than confident and basically refused to wire the doorbell in, opting to install it wirelessly (leaving the existing wires exposed) instead. His argument was that even if he wired it in, it wouldn't power the doorbell and I would have to remove the wires and dismount the doorbell to charge it. I argued his claims, and the fact that he brought a replacement transformer and chime, and asked to speak to his boss.

Long story short, the boss is claiming that 'due to UK legislation' the battery model can't be wired in in this country (he claims it can be hardwired in USA, but must run on battery power in the UK).

I haven't been able to find any such legislation and all over Google is their own claims that the doorbell can be used wired or wirelessly providing the existing doorbell is compatible - if it isn't, it can be made so with replacements/rewiring.

Has anyone in the UK had their Nest Doorbell (battery) hardwired in?
