Nest Doorbell (battery) with digital chime

KoenM

Hi,

I've installed a Nest doorbell (battery) wired to a 12V AC transformer. Everything works well.

However, I'd like to use my digital chime in combination with the doorbell (Grothe Up Gong 120 WS, 8-12V, 0,5A, supporting both AC/DC). I've attached the wiring diagram from the chime manual below.

I've tried to connect it both in parallel and serially to the doorbell, however, I cannot figure out how to connect it properly.

Some more info: when I measure the voltage over the two wires (without the chime connected), it's 11,4V AC; when the doorbell is pushed it temporarily drops to 2,4V AC (for a few seconds, in accordance with the setting in the Home app). Looking at these values it does not seem to make sense to connect it serially given the specs of the chime, am I right? (the chime will not react to voltage drop I presume)

I would really appreciate any ideas as to how to connect it properly..

Thanks in advance!

Koen

Hi KoenM,

Thanks for reaching out here in the Community and for sharing here the steps you've done. To confirm, where are you located now? The voltage required for your Nest Doorbell is 8 to 24V AC and power is 10 to 40 VA and frquency is 50 to 60 Hz. Hit this link for more information.

Hi Emerson,

Thanks for your response!

So far no progress.. indeed, my transformer meets the requirements you referred to (the doorbell in combination with the transformer works well, the problem is how to add the chime).

Cheers, Koen

Hey KoenM,

Thanks for getting back to us. We would recommend you to try the steps indicated in this link. You could also watch the video tutorial on how to install your Nest Doorbell (battery) with existing chime. Let us know your update here.

Best,

Emerson

Hi Emerson,

I've done that, however the info on the installation with an existing chime fails to give any details as to how a digital chime should be wired.. (e.g. the YouTube movie only relates to an analogy chime, and the further info does not appear to go beyond providing the required specs for the digital chime). So it would help have more details as to the wiring..

Kind regards, Koen

Hi KoenM,

Thanks for posting in our Community. I'm sorry for the delay and to hear you're having trouble with this. Let’s check it out.

While we don’t have any information available for wiring a Nest Doorbell (battery) to your digital chime, you may contact a Nest Pro to help you install the device.

If you are in the US, you can contact our installation partner, OnTech, to help you set up the Nest doorbell.

For all other countries, you can book an appointment with a Nest Pro. More information here.

Thanks for the help, Emerson.

Regards,

Lance

Thanks for your responses, Lance and Emerson. I'm afraid the Nest Pro link doesn't work for my country (the Netherlands, I get a message that I need admin right to proceed to the page). So I think I'll leave it for now and will try to find an alternative solution (e.g. with an AC voltage sensor connected to my home automation system, which can then trigger the digital chime).

Thanks,

Koen

Just wondering, are you aware of any "official" Google Nest support I can contact, who could give me more electrical technical details? (I suppose also the Nest Pro people should get their info from somewhere)

Cheers,

Koen
