Hi all,
I have seen various versions of this problem posted elsewhere but no really concrete solutions, if one has been found please point me in the right direction.
I installed a new Nest Doorbell (battery) and had no difficulty with the setup. However, it is not chiming or announcing on any of the speakers in my house when the button is pressed. I do get a notification on my phone, but that's it. The speakers in my house are one nest mini, one google home mini, and 2 nest wifi points that double as speakers. The easy stuff:
- I only have one "Home" set up and all devices are on that Home
- I only have one wifi network set up, it is a Nest wifi mesh, which includes the speakers mentioned above
- I have Visitor Announcements turned on
- I do not have any Quiet Time options enabled
- I have no problem connecting to and controlling any of these devices with my Google Home app, they are all on wifi and the network indicated under the device settings is the same
I would have thought this would be pretty straightforward. I spent a couple hours chatting with Google support yesterday that was mostly "re-start your router, re-start your doorbell" etc that went nowhere.
Any suggestions for how to troubleshoot this? I would like to have the most basic function of my doorbell!

Hi AJoneja,
Thanks for providing this useful information!
Let's try a different workaround together! Please follow the next steps:
This will refresh the settings and may fix this situation. If, after performing these steps, your Google Nest Speakers continue to not announce when someone rings your Nest Doorbell, when you get a chance, please feel free to fill out this form. My team would like to know more about this behavior. If you fill out the form, remember to include the link to this thread, and please let me know once you're finished; we'll contact you via email.
In the meantime, if you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to reply to this post. I'll be happy to assist you further!

Hi @AJoneja,
Thanks for posting here in the community! I'm sorry to hear that your Nest Doorbell (battery) isn’t chiming or announcing on any of your speakers. I'd be happy to help!
I appreciate you providing all of the details. Since you've already taken a few steps and verified that you have the Quiet Time option set, could you please clarify whether you disabled the Do Not Disturb option or if this was another one?
In the meantime, I'd suggest checking if you're disabling the Do Not Disturb option by using the following command: “Turn off; do not disturb.”
Let me know how it goes.
Best regards,
Jenniffer

Hi Jenniffer,
Thank you for the response. I can confirm that I do not have any Do Not Disturb options selected for any of the devices, nor any Digital Wellbeing options. I do have Notifications enabled.
I tried a workaround by adding Automations when the doorbell is pressed - "Announce to Household" and "Play Music" on all of the speakers in question. Unfortunately this also does not work. The doorbell press is recorded as an Activity in Google Home, but none of the actions take place.

Hi Nery,
That is progress! I toggled the Visitor Announcements off and back on as you described. Now the Automations are working! Not sure if they are overriding the standard Visitor Announcement, and I will try to disable them and see if I still get notified. But very happy to be getting some notice when the doorbell is pressed. Thanks!

Hi AJoneja,
Thanks for your response!
Great news! I'm glad to hear that now you're getting the Visitor announcements through your automations.
When you try the Standard Visitor announcements, please let me know of the results. I will be happy to continue helping if you need more assistance!
