Nest Doorbell not announcing visitor names

Nest doorbell recognizes faces but speakers won't say the names. Stopped working a few days ago. It recognizes faces and adds new faces but wont announce their names on house speakers.

Hey there,

Thank you for bringing up the concern you're experiencing, I would love to look into this further for you. The first troubleshooting step that I'd recommend would be to restart your devices. This process should keep all your settings, and reconnect it to the same Wi-Fi network. This is helpful if it ever freezes, has connection problems, or isn't working normally. If you are still experiencing this after restarts, please let us know, and we can try something else.

Best regards,
Brad

Hi,

I worked out that if I approach the doorbell and ring it straight away, I get notified on the Google speakers that “someone is at the doorbell” .
If I otherwise approach the nest hello, wait a few seconds, and then ring it, I get the expected notification “<my name> is at the doorbell” .
any ideas why this might be happening?

It is most likely a natural delay of the doorbell trying to recognize you when you approach quickly, and it probably takes it a little longer to decide who you are. I am not sure how you would find a solution to this as these devices are learning devices, and it can take some time. You can try to restart it and see if that process improves, but not much else I can suggest making the process quicker.

Well there’s two things: the delay seems to have appeared only recently, as it was all working as expected only a few weeks ago. Also, the delay seems quite long : we’re talking second as in 5 to 10 seconds someone has to stand in front of the camera before pushing the button.
I did the reset as you suggested in your previous post but that didn’t help.

Have you made any changes to your Wi-Fi connection recently? Is your app up to date? Sorry to hear the restart didn't help.

Nope no changes to the Wi-Fi and the app is up to date. However the nest hello is a brand new unit I got as replacement for my previous one, as that had an issue with its front plate peeling off, so Google replaced it .

That makes a bit more sense if the device is new to your Home. It will take time for the device to learn faces again, and the delay you are experiencing may be a normal byproduct of it attempting to learn faces again.

Brad
