Fool me once, shame on you
Fool me twice, shame on me
I have two entryways with Nest Battery Doorbells, as well as 2 nest cameras and multiple nest thermostats in my home. Slight more than 1 year after purchasing my doorbells I had an issue remounting after charging. Essentially, the tiny button in the back of the doorbell retracts and gets stuck. I contacted Google for a replacement but was told it was out of warranty and no luck. Begrudgingly, I bought a new one.
Well, now the second one has the same issue and I refuse to buy a new one. My doorbell budget is not unlimited. Google refused an out-of-warranty replacement and wouldn't even offer a discount on a purchase of a new one. Guess I'm shopping for a different hardware. I hope there's a class-action lawsuit someday on this. Google should be punished for selling an inferior product.

We're glad that, when we decided to add a doorbell to our third entrance about 18 months ago, we went with the older Google Nest Hello Doorbell and a plug-in power adapter rather than the battery doorbell, because of battery issues in cold weather climates like ours (we live in Minnesota). Since then I've seen repeated posts in this forum about the mounting mechanism failing on the battery doorbell. If a customer needs to repeatedly dismount their doorbell in order to charge it, it should come with a durable mounting mechanism.

If you want to try a diy mount, you can get the doorbell cam to operate by using a small magnet. Looking at the back of the doorbell, slide a small thin magnet around the right side of the upper area, above and to the right of the two wiring screws/screw holes. You will hear the internal switch click when you find the right spot. I secure my little magnet with a bit of duct tape so it doesn't slide off the spot. I made a decorative mounting board with two slots and strap the doorbell to it with a zip tie or hose clamp. I use one of those silicone covers to hide the strap and also give a little rain protection.

This sounds like a reasonable option for DIY. Can you post a photo? Thanks!
