Nest Doorbell won’t connect NC009

JQ5

Please help.. I know there are bigger issues in the world than connecting a doorbell!

I have fibre broadband to my house and an ofnl modem. I have 2 Google WiFi nest pro routers.. all working great. I set up a google thermostat and nest audio speaker this week no problems. Each to the nest app and home app.

but the doorbell… it just won’t connect to the nest app! I’ve reset and restarted everything, code nc009 indicates a WiFi issue, but I can’t work out how to change firewall settings on my router.. typing my IP router address into the web takes me to the download the home app page..

I’ve followed each troubleshooting guide, received a replacement doorbell but all to no avail…

Hi @JQ5,

answering your question,

There are actually limited security setting adjustments available directly on the Nest Wifi Pro itself. However, you can manage some key security aspects through the Google Home app. Here's how:

Change Wi-Fi Security Protocol:

  1. Open the Google Home App: This app manages your Nest Wifi Pro device.
  2. Locate Your Wifi: Find your Nest Wifi Pro network on the app's home screen.
  3. Access Settings: Tap on the Wi-Fi network name or icon.
  4. Network Settings: Look for a section titled "Network settings" or similar.
  5. Security: Under Network settings, you should find an option related to security. It might be labeled "Security" or "Wi-Fi security."
  6. Choose Security Protocol: Here, you can potentially choose between WPA2 (the current default) and WPA3 (if available). WPA3 is considered more secure.

Enable WPA3 Transition Mode (if available):

  • With WPA3 transition mode enabled, both WPA2 and WPA3 devices can connect to your network. This offers more compatibility while allowing newer devices to leverage WPA3's security benefits.

Important Notes:

  • Not all devices support WPA3. Switching to WPA3 might disconnect older devices that are incompatible.
  • Double-check your device compatibility before changing the security protocol.

Additional Security Measures:

While the Google Home app offers limited direct security configuration, here are some additional practices to enhance your Nest Wifi Pro network's security:

  • Strong Password: Use a strong and unique password for your Wi-Fi network. Avoid using easily guessable information.
  • Guest Network: Consider setting up a separate guest network for visitors. This limits their access to your main network resources.
  • Disable WPS: Disable Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) on your Nest Wifi Pro. WPS simplifies connection but has known security vulnerabilities.
  • Keep Software Updated: Ensure your Nest Wifi Pro and Google Home app are updated to the latest versions for security patches and improvements.

By following these steps and practices, you can improve the overall security of your Nest Wifi Pro network. If you have more advanced security needs, consulting with a network security professional might be recommended.

Regards,

Mario.

Hi there!

Thank you for posting. I'm sorry for the experience you're having with your doorbell. To make sure we're on the same page, do you have a 2nd generation or 1st generation doorbell?

  • Newer Nest devices (2nd Gen) can only be set up in the Google Home app, not the Nest app.
  • Older Nest devices (1st Gen) can only be set up in the Nest App, not the Google Home App.

If you're connecting your doorbell to the correct application and you're still having the same error, here's a link where you can perform a reset or factory reset on your device. Follow the steps depending on the doorbell you have: Restart or factory reset Nest camera or Doorbell Restart or factory reset Nest camera or Doorbell

Sincerely,

Obed

Hi Obed, thank you for your message. I’ve just bought the doorbell from google store and it is the only available doorbell, I’m assuming it’s 1st generation as there isn’t an alternative. I have tried and tried to connect it via the home app and nest app but it doesn’t connect. I think it is a WiFi issue? I need to know how I can change my router security?

Hello jQ5,

I appreciate the efforts you've made to connect your doorbell to Google Home and Nest App. It would help me a lot if you could share a photo of the doorbell and its status light.

Let me ask a few questions:

  • What troubleshooting steps have you tried before and how?

Also, if you're experiencing internet connectivity issues, please contact your internet service provider.

Best Regards,

Obed

Hi Obed, thank you for your continued help. My internet and WiFi are working perfectly. I installed a nest audio this week with no problems via the home app. I can’t share a photo on this chat? But I have the latest nest wired doorbell from the google store if that helps.
I have tried every trouble shooting flow displayed in the interactive help and speaking with the support team.. my question is, how can I change the security settings on my nest WiFi pro?

thank you so much for your replies.. I have a partial result! I have installed the doorbell on a new space on the nest app and google home, it’s now working.. only issue is that it’s not in the same home as my other devices, but I can live with that:)
