Nest Doorbell

Nick32
Community Member

I’ve had a Nest Doorbell (battery) for a couple of years.   Its maximum battery life is 1 week, and at this time of year (winter in London, it never really gets below freezing) it needs recharging every 3 or 4 days.  This is obviously very unsatisfactory and against the product description, but I have put up with it.  Zones are set up.  (I only have one zone, quite narrowly delineated).  There are no more than 15 events per day, generally less.   It has recently stopped recording events.  I managed to reset it, which took forever, but it has just stopped recording events again.    Furthermore, it has recently become intermittent at alerting for events.   The reason I have put up with it is because it is a nice design, and when it works, it works very well
Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

Hi @Nick32,

Thank you for posting in the community. I understand you've been experiencing inconveniences with the battery of your Nest Doorbell (battery), the recording, and notification events. I'll be glad to assist you.

Since you mentioned your doorbell is recording no more than 15 events per day and you've set up an activity zone to save battery as indicated in the article "Save battery for Nest cameras and doorbells," please provide me with the information requested below to better understand your concern:

  • Did you start experiencing this when winter started?
  • Do you leave your doorbell charging for at least 5 hours as recommended?
  • Do you get any error messages in the app or when you try to view the live feed?
  • What is the color of the LED on your doorbell?

I'll be waiting for your response, and let me know if you have more questions.

Regards,

Anders

Hi Anders

Thanks so much for getting in touch.   Here are the answers to your questions

  • Did you start experiencing this when winter started?    The battery has always performed like this, ever since I’ve had it.  (I bought it new from John Lewis.  John Lewis is a large chain of department stores in the UK).  Basically, I charge it overnight, and it never lasts longer than a week
  • Do you leave your doorbell charging for at least 5 hours as recommended?  Yes.  It pings me a notification when it’s fully charged
  • Do you get any error messages in the app or when you try to view the live feed?   No.   No error messages
  • What is the color of the LED on your doorbell?   It has a little white light on it when it is charging

Best

Hi @Nick32,

Thank you for replying. I really appreciate this information.

Based on your answers, let's try to troubleshoot your Nest Doorbell (battery) by following the steps below:

  1. Restart your Nest Doorbell (battery) by pressing and holding the reset button for five seconds. Your doorbell will restart, and the status light will be a steady and solid white.
  2. After restarting your doorbell, charge the battery with a different charging cable for five to six hours.
  3. If you're still experiencing the same issue after following the previous steps, remove the doorbell from the app. Open the app, then tap Settings > Remove device > Confirm.
  4. Factory reset your Nest Doorbell (battery).
  5. Connect the doorbell to the app with the QR code.
  6. Change settings to save battery, and set up and use Activity Zones.

Please keep me posted. I'll be waiting for your response.

Regards,

Anders

Hi Anders

As at this point the battery is about half discharged

However the door cam has suddenly developed a new issue.   It has stopped sending notifications when someone enters the designated field of vision.    I have been in all morning and this has happened 3 times in succession.   It has also stopped recording the videos

Thanks

You say “please include the link to your Community thread”.  I’m sorry, I do not understand this.   What is a Community thread, what is a link, and how do I do it?

many thanks

Hi Anders,  so sorry, that’s even more mysterious!  I have no understanding of what you are asking me to do.  “ I mean you should include the URL of this post”, this is a language with which I’m completely unfamiliar!   Can you please put it in plain English?

thanks and sorry!   Nick
