Nest Drop Cam doesn’t record at certain times

SdKruegz

I have a nest drop cam from 2016 and we’ve been using it as a camera for my toddler’s room. However I’ve noticed that after certain hours, it doesn’t record or detect any motion. We are subscribed to Nest Aware. The last couple of days, it stops detecting after 9pm then only records again after 7am the next day. Nothing was set as scheduled. Any ideas appreciated.

Check the routine settings on your Google Home App..

My drop cam from a million years ago is constantly going offline

everything is "TOO" connected these days.  You have to figure out which app. is the one that has its settings goofed up...or not to your liking.

Hello SdKruegz,

Thanks for reaching out to our Community. I’m sorry to hear that you're having issues with the Dropcam. No worries; let’s check it out.

If you have Home/Away assist enabled for the device, the Dropcam will stop the video stream, activity alerts, and video history.

Let’s check the Home/Away assist setting for your device. Follow the steps below:

  1. Open the Nest app.
  2. Tap Settings on the home screen.
  3. Select Home/Away Assist.
  4. Tap either the Home or Away icon at the top of the screen. You’ll find a summary of what each of your Nest products will do when your home is in that mode.
  5. If you want to make any changes, tap on the Nest product you’d like to control.

Here are some handy guides for more information:

Keep me posted.

Thanks for chiming in, Dummydeedum.

Best,

Lance

Hello - it’s off, “no change” home and Away.
It records the whole day pretty much but when it’s night time when I needed it more, ie, my kid moving out of his room, no notification, no recording.

Hi SdKruegz,

Thanks for getting back to me with the follow-up information. Let’s try the additional steps below:

  1. Check for any iOS updates.
  2. Uninstall the Nest app, restart your phone, and then reinstall the app.
  3. Observe if this fixes the issue. If it doesn't, proceed with the rest of the steps.
  4. Save any video history on the device, if any. Follow this guide.
  5. Remove the Dropcam from the Nest app; open the app, then tap Settings > Remove device>  Confirm. This action will factory reset the device.
  6. Make sure the phone is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the selected network for the Nest device.
  7. Bluetooth should be enabled, but it should not be connected to any Bluetooth devices. Disconnect any Bluetooth devices paired to your phone, such as earbuds, smartwatches, etc.
  8. Cellular data should be turned off.
  9. On your iOS device, tap Settings > Privacy > Local Network and turn on Local Network Access for the Nest app.
  10. Start adding the device back to the Nest app.
  11. After adding the Dropcam back to the Nest app, make sure the schedule is set to off.
  12. With the Nest app, select your camera.
  13. Tap Settings > Schedule.
  14. Turn the schedule off.
  15. Ensure that Home/Away Assist is also set to off. Follow the instructions from the previous post.

Let me know if the camera behavior persists.

Best regards,

Lance

I followed your instructions, removed and added it again. And for the first time again, I have a recording at 2am! Thank you Lance!
