Nest Hello (Wired) Won't Ring Mechanical Chimes

GraySquirrel
Community Member

I have been working to install the Nest Hello to ring the internal mechanical chimes.  I have already upgraded the doorbell transformer to a 16V 30VA, double and triple checked the connections and cycled the electronic chime setting.

After pushing the button when set to ring chimes, the piston will move but not far enough to strike the chimes.  Can anyone suggest a next step, short of looking for a professional to resolve the issue?

I've checked the threads here and elsewhere and so far have not been able to identify the root cause for the problem or a potential solution.  Would be grateful for help.

Hi GraySquirrel,

Thanks for visiting the Community. Got it, it looks like a Nest Pro is needed to take a better look at your chime. You may schedule a technician with our Nest Pro here.

Give us a shout if you have any questions.

Thanks,

JT

JT,

Thanks for following up.  Is there any insight that you might provide as to what a professional might do for us that we missed?  It seems that this issue is common and based on review of the posts in the community, it frequently goes unsolved.

In researching professionals, some state that they do not guarantee resolution.  I suspect others do not specifically address this on their websites. At any ratem  some additional information would be helpful for me to make a call on whether to put more money into this project and hiring a professional or to give up on the Nest Hello working as designed.

Hi GraySquirrel,

A local pro installer or trained electrician can measure your doorbell wire voltage or upgrade your system if it’s not compatible. They can also install the Nest doorbell for you. They'll look into your chime if it's compatible or not.

Give us a shout if you have further questions.

Best,

JT
