Nest IQ Outdoor Camera Not Powering On

Irwin49

Two weeks ago one of my Nest IQ Outdoor cameras said it was offline. Rebooting the camera did absolutely nothing and when I looked at the physical camera there are no lights on it like there are on my other cameras. So it seems the device had no power.

I tried a different outlet and still had no power. Using this different outlet I pulled the USB cable from the back of the camera and it powered up a different USB device, so the power adapter was working.

I took down my other IQ Outdoor camera and it works in the spot where Camera 1 did not. Camera 1 does not work where Camera 2 was working. So I assumed it was the camera itself, not the power adapter.

I unplugged everything, the adapter from the outlet, the USB cable from the adapter, and the camera from the adapter. It let it all sit for half an hour and it still would not power on.

The USB cable seemed to be snapping into the camera well and sitting snugly. Just in case, I got a different USB cable that doesn't have the special snap in connection and plugged it into the camera so that I was sure the cable was making full contact in the port. The camera still would not power on.

At this point I am more or less sure that the camera itself has malfunctioned. Of course, it is now outside of the 2 year warranty period by 5 months, so I cannot do a warranty claim.

Is there any way to have the camera repaired the same as a warranty claim, but paid? Or does Nest not repair the cameras and the only option is entirely replacing the camera?

Hi there,

I apologize for my late response and thank you for all of your patience while waiting for a reply. I understand how frustrating your situation must be, and I would love to help however I can. Thank you for going over the steps that you have taken to troubleshoot this issue! I bet it's been quite a frustrating situation. I can say that for right now, I would try to Factory Reset the cam, and then try again to connect it and see what is going on.

Best Regards,

Brad.

I used a paperclip to factory reset the device while it was still under power. I could feel the paperclip making contact with the reset button and held it down for 60 seconds. According to the instructions the blue light should start to spin, but I had no lights at all. I tried this process 3 times with no change. Just to be sure there was nothing wrong with just the light I attempted to add the camera again in the Nest app. It was not able to find the camera.

@Irwin49

Not sure what else to try, but I am going to be transparent and state that we are completely out of stock of this product in the US. Not sure if a replacement is an option. I would suggest trying to plug it into a different outlet, try to restart it and factory reset it over and over again. Do what you can

Best regards,

Brad

Thanks for the transparency. Is there no option for repairs? I have tired to look local but no one seems to want to repair them and all suggested contacting the manufacturer. It seems there's no repair option through Nest either, but I'm just trying to confirm that is the case before I look for other options.

@Irwin49

I am not aware of an option for official repairs by Google or Nest, but maybe you have a local company who can repair them. It would be good to look into that.

Best regards,

Brad
