Nest IQ needs to be brought back

The fact that you guys are dropping support for such a beloved product really sucks. And I won't buy another Google product because of it, you guys sold us out when early adopters supported your platform, and you pays us back after years of subscription fees by making our cameras bricks now.

We know you don't care but this has to be said that you really dropped the ball on this.

@oldkid6

The Google Nest IQ Camera is still supported in the Google Nest app, but Google Nest did quit selling them a couple of years ago.

Google Nest is dropping support for Dropcams as of April 2024 (https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Blog/An-update-for-our-Nest-Secure-Dropcam-and-Works-with-Nes...).

From what I've read there's no more support for Nest IQ cameras after April. There's not going to be any cloud based services for the camera. If I'm incorrect please send me a link to how the service will continue. The Dropcam is known, but there are plenty of other articles about the Nest IQ downfall as well, which is why they don't sell the camera anymore.

@oldkid6

I have NOT seen ANY notice or report anywhere--in this forum or on Google Nest's website or elsewhere--or any articles or postings anywhere--to indicate that SUPPORT for Nest IQ cameras is being discontinued. We have Google Nest Outdoor Cameras, Nest Hello Doorbells, and a 1st gen Google Nest Indoor Camera, which have also been discontinued for some time now, but are also still supported in the Google Nest app and the Google Home app, on the home.nest.com and the home.google.com websites, and in Nest Aware and Nest Aware Plus subscriptions.

If you know of any links indicating that SUPPORT for Google Nest IQ Cameras is being discontinued, could you share them?  We have a family member who has Google Nest IQ Cameras.

We believe that our partnership with ADT creates a more helpful smart home security experience to help people connect and protect what matters most - both today and in the future. So starting April 8, 2024 support will stop for Nest Secure. Until that date, all current features will remain available and you can continue using your Nest Secure as you do now. After that date, your Nest Secure will no longer be accessible in the Nest app.

@oldkid6

That's from the blog post I linked to above, which also says: "This announcement only affects Dropcam, Dropcam Pro, Nest Secure, and Works with Nest. This announcement does not affect other Nest Cam models."

"Nest Secure" is an alarm system that includes Nest Guard, Nest Detect, and Nest Tag, and has nothing to do with Google Nest cameras.

So you're saying if i migrate to Google Home it's all going to the same?

@oldkid6

We migrated our Nest Account to a Google Account in 2020, and then switched from the 1st gen Nest Aware subscription to a Nest Aware Plus subscription because--with several cameras and doorbells--it was cheaper.

We continue to use the Google Nest app and the home.nest.com website for our 1st gen cameras and doorbells (which can also be seen, but not with full functionality, in the Google Home app and on the home.google.com website).

If you're migrating, see this FAQ page first.  Some customers have had problems in migration.  Note that you can't migrate to a Google Account that is already being used for Google Nest devices; see the workaround.

Google Nest is probably some day going to force us to move our 1st gen cameras from the Google Nest app to the Google Home app, but they're just starting test efforts in that direction, and just for the 1st gen indoor camera (see below), and still have not added many important Nest app functions to the Google Home app.

https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Blog/Nest-Cam-Indoor-1st-gen-expanded-support-rolling-out-in-...

I appreciate your feedback but I still don't trust the migration process to work in my situation. I only use the Nest app and have no other uses for Google Home services, so I cannot see the migration working in my favor at this time.

What I'm going to do is just wait until the Nest app is no long supported, then when forced into migration and see if it works as before or at least to my liking, if not, I'll just have to ditch the cameras and look for a replacement system. I know I won't be using ADT as they are terrible and I don't all their BS systems and monitoring. The beauty of the Nest IQ system cameras is the design and app simplicity, now that it's going to change it's just bitter-sweet, and I feel like I'm not alone based on all the comments I've been reading on YT. I've been a loyal customer and I hate paying for cloud subscriptions but Nest was the absolute only one I even considered based on the service and what I got in return. I can only be hopeful the cameras and cloud service continue to work on Google Home but I'm not very optimistic seeing how they want to go in a different direction with all the battery only cameras.

I'm pretty sure Eufy will come out with a better 24/7 cameras system than the one they just released. I have the a few Eufy products and they work quite well, but they're only battery powered. We shall see how this plays out...
