Nest IQ outdoor camera suddenly offline, despite nothing changing

We have had a Nest IQ outdoor camera since 2019 - and it has worked continuously with no real issues. As of two days ago, the camera is entirely offline - although we can't work out why.

1) There is no light on the camera

2) In the app, both my husband (Android user) and I (iPhone user) see a message that the camera is offline (error code: NC023).

There has been no change to our internet connection or router, nor any issues with the power connection. We have tested the plug point into which the Nest camera is plugged in - and it is working perfectly. There was no adverse weather when the camera went offline, nor is there any obvious damage to the camera. The camera has not been touched.

Things we have tried:

  • We have reset the router several times
  • We have switched off the camera at its power source multiple times, waited a while, and then switched it back on. There is still no light.
  • We have tried to reset the camera by pushing a wire into the hole on the front beneath the logo. We have held this reset for 15-20 seconds and nothing happens.
  • We have held our phones right next to the camera and tried to reconnect it via the wi-fi settings and also switched Bluetooth and phones off and on.

The camera is secured high on a garage wall so we are unable to move it closer to the router.

Please advise how our camera can be brought back online.

Hello,  I'm an end user like you.  I'm sorry to say most likely the camera has failed and cannot be fixed (meaning Google does  not repair them).    The life of these cameras seems to be around 4-6 years.  I had one fail on me at the 3 year mark and I ended up buying a used on from eBay and it is working great.

As best I remember when the camera is first plugged in there will be some lights on the very front of it showing it is booting up.  If you are not getting those then either the camera is broken or there is a chance the power supply has stopped working.  Also be sure to inspect the cable going from the power supply to the camera as sometimes the weather causes them to fail or an animal bites thru them.

Another thing is double check that the AC outlet it is plugged into is still supplying power by plugging something else into it just to test it.

Do you have any other nests cameras of the same model that you could swap the power supply just to test it?

I hope this helps.

All 7 of mine went out at the same time. On April 8 24 they were all working just fine. Next day nothing explained that one for me please……have a lot of money invested in these cameras for Google to screw up the app or whatever is going on

very frustrating and confusing

Google Nest quit supporting Dropcams on April 8, 2024, but that shouldn't affect other 1st gen Google Nest cameras and doorbells. Ours are still working.
