Nest Wired Doorbell Set Up

so, i've been trying to set up my new nest wired doorbell and am stumped. before i do the full installation i'm trying to test the camera/app. i've got the camera plugged into a usb-c cable so it's getting power. the blue light surrounding the main doorbell button on the bottom is on. when i try to add a new device and scan the qr code using the google home app, it reads it (i get a big check mark) but then nothing happens. similarly, when i try the alternative approach and enter the 6 digit code on the back of the bell, again, nothing happens. arrrghh! can anybody help?

Perhaps the USB-C connector is designed only to charge the internal battery on the 2nd gen Google Nest Doorbell--should that ever be necessary--and is throwing off the install process. (Yes, the doorbell has an internal battery, just like the old Google Nest Hello Doorbell; it powers the doorbell's camera for the instant when the doorbell button is pressed.)

The USB-C connection is not mentioned in the install process. The install process calls for adding the doorbell to the Google Home app before connecting it to your doorbell wires; presumably, during the install process the internal battery provides the power. (That's how it worked for all of our old Google Nest Hello Doorbells, though the install process doesn't mention that.)

You could just try the install process without plugging the doorbell into a USB-C connection (and before connecting it to the doorbell wires) and see if that works.

thanks for the advice @MplsCustomer, really appreciate it. however, and i hate to admit this, but i've been trying to install the 1st gen nest doorbell, not the 2nd gen google/nest doorbell. ugh, my bad, and, yes, i'm an idiot. turns out i have to use the nest app to do the set up not the google home app. you'd think the qr code would tell you as much, but maybe that's too much to ask for an app. in any case, it's sorted and i do have to thank you for your post because it made me think to double check the model.

Having to use 2 apps for our Google Nest devices is a source of endless confusion.  Hopefully, the updates announced in this forum by Google Nest about the upcoming updates to the Google Home app will bring all our devices together into the Google Home app.

so, i've heard that too, so i'm going to return the 1st gen and get the 2nd gen just to make things easier. unfortunately, i've also heard that the nest app is way better than the google home app, but i'd rather have everything consolidate and hope that google hears the feedback and replicates the nest functionality in the google home app. fingers crossed.
