Nest battery doorbell not factory resetting

Hello,

Similar to some other posts I've seen, I'm unable to factory reset my battery powered doorbell. I trigger the reset cycle by pressing the button on the back of the unit with a paperclip, but holding for longer (up to 2 minutes) does not trigger the count down nor the factory reset.

Hey britonsrule,

I’m sorry to hear you’re having trouble with this. No worries, we'll check this out. You can follow the steps below on how to factory reset your Nest Doorbell (Battery).

  1. Locate the reset pin hole on the back of the doorbell.

Tip: The reset pin on the Nest Doorbell (battery) is located below the USB port on the back of the doorbell.
  2. Insert and hold the pin (you can use an unfolded paperclip or a thumbtack):
    • At 10 seconds, the status light will blink yellow four times, and you’ll hear a countdown tone.
    • At 12 seconds, the status light will be steady, solid yellow while the doorbell starts the factory reset, and you’ll hear a confirmation tone.
  3. Release the button. Your doorbell will restore to its factory settings.
  4. After the factory reset, your doorbell will appear as “Offline” in the app until you remove it.
  5. To remove it from the app, open the app, then tap Settings > Remove device > Confirm.

Looking forward to your response.

I appreciate the help, MplsCustomer.

Thanks,

Archie

Hi Archie, thanks for the response. I just tried the method you posted and the light still doesn't change to yellow and start the factory reset sequence. Even when holding it for more than a minute, the light remains white and there is no countdown tone.

Please advise if there are any other reset steps I can try.

Thanks!

@britonsrule

Have you tried to bring the doorbell inside, plug it up inside, and then try to factory reset or restart it when it is plugged in, inside? Also, it sounds strange, but try to turn off your Wi-Fi, and then restart the device. Let me know if that helps. I have seen it work for some.

Best regards,

Brad

Hi Brad, Yes. All of my attempts have been while the doorbell is charged and inside. I've also tried the reset while the unit is plugged in and not with the same results.

The probelm started about 3 weeks ago when the battery died during a cold snap. After pulling the unit inside and charging it, I was unable to see it in the Home app and the chime didn't work. I tried a simple reboot, which didn't help, and the factory reset isn't working.

I've only had the doorbell for about 6 months, so I'm hoping there is some other fix I can try or that this issue is covered under warranty.

Hey there,

I'm sorry you're still having trouble with this. We'd like to further check this — could you fill out this form and let us know once you're done?

Thanks for the help, MplsCustomer, Archie and Brad.

Best,

JT
