Nest cam outdoor install near other lighta

Can a nest outdoor cam be installed near other lights?  I have an existing motion detecting floodlight (not a smart flood light, and not relayed to any other Google cam product) that id like to keep installed because it's brighter and would like to mount my nest cam either above it or below it. The floodlight would still come on at night when it detects motion with this setup. Will the light from the floodlight affect or interfere with the camera or its dark detection?

Hi @Gator29

In general no, if a floodlight is positioned well, it can actually improve your camera's performance. Here's some tips:

  • Ensure the floodlight is pointing at the subject (your yard/driveway/garden) and not back toward the camera.

  • Once installed, look at your live feed when the light turns on. If you see a "milky" white fog, the light is likely reflecting off a nearby wall or the camera's own housing, try some small adjustments.

  • If your floodlight is bright enough to keep the area well-lit, you can go into the Nest/Google Home app settings and experiment with setting Night Vision to "Off" to force the camera to stay in colour mode.

  • Sometimes a light just out of frame can still cause internal reflections. If the image looks soft, try adding a small "shroud" or "brim" over the top of the camera to block stray light.

Hope this helps!
