Nest cam won't charge after restart and cleaning

My second generation nest cam has worked well for 3 years. We brought it inside to charge it and it won't charge. I've watched videos and looked at the nest cam forum and we cleaned the prongs with alcohol and we restarted it by pressing the little white button at the top.  When we press that button for 5 seconds, a white light comes on, but the minute we stop pressing the button it all goes dark. Do you recommend a hard reset now? Or do you think our camera is just dead after 3 years?

Hi Vinita,

Thanks for posting in the community. I understand your Nest Cam (battery) has stopped charging after three years of working well. Even after restarting the camera, a white light comes on, but then goes off again. I appreciate all the efforts you've made to resolve this issue. I'm glad to help!

To better understand the situation, I'd like to ask a few questions:

  • Are you using the original charging cable and adapter that came with the Nest Cam?
  • Do you notice any debris, corrosion, or bending on the charging port or cable end that might prevent a proper connection?
  • Did you receive any notification from the Google Home app?

In the meantime, I suggest performing a factory reset to isolate the issue. Just note that this action will clear your data and delete the entire video history.

Keep me posted.

Melany

Thanks so much, Melany. Yes, I've checked all the connections and cleaned everything, and I'm using the original charging cable that came with the camera. My app did not notify me of anything special going on.

So I've now done step 1 of the factory reset -- the camera made some interesting chime sounds so I now that was successful. Now I have to set it up again. My young son set up all my cameras, so I'm waiting until he can help me do this. I'm hoping that will solve the problem.

I appreciate your response!
