Hey! Will N!

The blue light indicates that the device is ready to connect or is trying to connect to the Wi-Fi network. If the device doesn't move at all, this usually means that the modem has been moved or the Wi-Fi configuration has changed. Sometimes, ISPs change or update the modem, which can cause this issue.

It's recommended to start by disconnecting both the camera and the router, placing them in a location with a strong Wi-Fi signal, and waiting for the device to connect. If this doesn't resolve the issue, you can try resetting the device.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

@WillN

I've been seeing posts in this forum about being unable to connect to a "joining device" for three years, with no clear solution. It seems Google Nest's install process is trying to connect to another Google Nest device in your home to obtain your Wi-Fi credentials, and when the connection fails they do NOT give you the option to simply enter the Wi-Fi credentials.

You could try contacting Support:

1. Go to https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp.
2. Select a category/product family, and type in a brief description of the issue, then click "Next".
3. Click "Other", then click "Next step".
4. Under "Resources", just click "Next step". (Clicking one of the listed links will bring up a Help page page.)
5. Under "Contact options", choose to get a phone call or chat with the team, depending on availability in your country.

Thx. I bet that is the issue. Have reset everything, unplugged etc. Still gets hung up trying to connect

Hi folks!

@MplsCustomer and @Rwiinbo, thanks for your recommendations.

@WillN thanks for posting in the community.
I’m sorry for all the inconveniences that you have experienced when trying to connect your Nest Cam with Floodlights. I can see that you have already factory reset your device and also moved the device closer to the router, but you are still getting stuck on the Connecting to joining device screen. I’m more than happy to help you in this.

To further assist you, I will need some extra information. Here are some questions for you:

  • Have you tried using the setup code?
  • Is the blue light on the camera solid or blinking?
  • Do you have any other Nest device connected to your router?
  • What is the model of your mobile phone?
  • Is your mobile phone updated?
  • What other troubleshooting steps have you done so far?

I’ll be waiting for your response.

Regards,

Daniel.

Why doesn't Google Nest just fix the "cannot connect to joining device" error? Or, when it occurs, simply let the customer enter their Wi-Fi credentials instead?

I spent 25 mins on the google support line. They indicated that some adjustment to the app was needed and told me to wait for 24 hours.

Solid blue light, blinks when I try to connect, but then it all freezes. Added another camera to my system, but the second one wont connect. iPhone. Yes updated. Rest camera, WiFi, iPhone, etc
