Nest cameras stuck on Night Vision

I have two nest cams that are consistently failing to come out of Night Vision mode. Both cams are 2 years old. I have reset each to factory defaults, updated software, and the issue continues to happen. The issue started in winter, the cameras are in cold weather in Massachusetts. When I log in to the cameras using the app and toggle Night Vision off then back to Auto , the color comes back on and stays until the following morning.

If there is no permanent fix, is it possible to generate a routine to toggle Night Vision off then back to Auto every day at sunrise?

Thanks for posting in the Community and sharing all the steps you’ve tried to fix the issue. I’d be happy to help you with this. Let’s check it out.

 

Please follow the steps below:
 

  1. Check for any iOS updates and install them if there are any.
  2. Uninstall the Nest or Google Home app, restart your phone, and then reinstall the app.
  3. Check that the outdoor lights don’t shine into the camera lens. In some cases, bright lights can delay or prevent the camera from switching to Night Vision.

Hi Lance. Thank you for your thoughts. I have completed the troubleshooting steps you recommended but the issue persists. To clarify, the floodlight cameras are controlled by the Google Home app, not the Nest app.

The issue seems to be temperature related. When it is below freezing, the cameras stay on Night Vision unless I manually toggle that feature off/on. Otherwise, in normal temperatures they are functioning normally.

 

Is there a way to automate turning Night Vision off/on?

Great catch! I have updated the response above. Going back to your question, night vision isn’t currently listed as one of the supported starters, conditions, or actions. I’m afraid it isn’t possible to create a routine to toggle night vision off and then back on.
