Nest doorbell 1st generetion wired connection issue and unknown light pattern

Hello,

We have a Nest Doorbell wired gen 1, that we are trying to connect. There is a blue light blinking but it is not the fast pattern for connecting, but 1 second on and 4 seconds off. I can't find any information on what this might be, because the information only mentions a blue light thats blinking on/off fast.

I have tried connecting with 2 different phones, but it is not working.

Any idea what might be the issue, or do we need to get Gen 2?

Hi @GuestehausW

Thanks for posting here in the community! I'm sorry to hear that you're having inconveniences setting up your Nest doorbell (1st generation) through the app. I'd be happy to help!

Since your doorbell is displaying a slowly blinking light, it indicates it's ready for setup in the Nest app. To gather more information, I’d like to ask the following:

  • Is this the first time you're attempting to add it to the Nest app?
  • Are you encountering any error messages?
  • How far is the doorbell from your router?
  • What is the model of your mobile device?

In the meantime, please try these steps:

  • Verify that your Nest doorbell is receiving adequate power.
    • Ensure the circuit breakers are turned on.
    • If using a plug-in AC wall adapter, confirm it's designed for video doorbells and provides sufficient power (16-24 VAC, minimum 10 VA). DC adapters are incompatible with wired video doorbells.
  • Check for any interference from devices like microwaves or baby monitors that might disrupt the setup process. For more information, refer to this article: Troubleshoot connecting to the app during setup.
  • Restart your mobile device to refresh the connection.
  • Try to move your camera closer to your Wi-Fi router or access point, then try connecting your camera to the app again.
  • Perform a factory reset by pressing and holding two doorbell buttons for approximately 10–13 seconds. For detailed instructions, refer to this article: Restart or factory reset Nest camera or doorbell.
  • Once you see a slowly pulsing light, try connecting your Nest doorbell to the Nest app again. For guidance, check out this article: Install Nest Doorbell (wired).

Let me know how it goes.

Best regards,

Jenniffer
