Nest doorbell 2nd gen wired restart everytime

Hello the community !

I'm installing my new nest doorbell from many days now. My doorbell (2nd gen wired) is now powered by 24VAC and 22VA. It start well and the install process is going well in the Google home app.

Unfortunatly, i'm not able to finish the install process because my doorbell "restart" every 1 min approx...

Indeed, when the doorbell is powered on, everything seems good, the front light starts to be white then flashing blue. The install process is running ok and ask me to select a wifi network, enter the wifi password, then, the pairing fail. Not really surprising... Because the doorbell has restarted (welcome sound, white light then blue flashing...).

This unexpected restart appear even if i'm not installing the nest doorbell in the Home app. To be simple... The doorbell restart approx every minute as soon as it powered on.

Could you help me with this issue ?

Thanks you in advance 😉

Hi @Etias,

Thanks for posting here in the community! I'm sorry to hear that your Nest doorbell is restarting every minute. I'd be happy to help!

I appreciate the detailed information you've provided. Since you mentioned that it's a new installation powered by 24 VAC and 22VA, I recommend checking the specific voltage supplied from the transformer to confirm if this is causing the restarting behavior. The Nest Doorbell (wired) won't be compatible if:

  • The transformer has no label.
  • The voltage is above or below the Nest Doorbell's requirements.

In this case, I suggest using a multimeter to measure the voltage or consulting a local professional. For more information, please refer to this article: Check Nest Doorbell compatibility.

Keep me posted.

Best regards,

Hi Jennifer,

Thanks you for your answer.

Indeed, i quoted power description of my transformer especcialy because i installed it according with the requierements of the Nest Doorbell. I'm living in France and we usualy use 8-12VAC for existing doorbell.

That why i installed a dedicated (New) transformer 24VAC with 22VA intensity to connect my Nest doorbell.

I confirm that with a too low voltage (12V of my previous doorbell trans.) the Nest doorbell blink yellow has expected. It's not the  case with the appropriate 24VAC transformer.

Do you have any other idea according with my issue ?

PS: i already factory reseted my doorbell according with the procedure 😉

Thanks you again in advance for your support.

Hi Etias,

Thanks for your response and for sharing this information!

Let's try a different workaround:

  • Check if there are any signs of debris, corrosion, or damage in the wires.
  • Check if the doorbell wires are securely connected.
    • Turn off the power source of the doorbell at the breaker box.
    • Remove the doorbell from the backplate.
    • Tighten the screws that hold the wires with a screwdriver. Make sure the ends of the wires don't touch each other or the base plate. Trim the wire ends and bend them if needed.
    • Turn the power back on.
    • Try to setup again your Nest Doorbell.

In the meantime, if you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to reply to this post. I'll be happy to assist you further!

Best regards,

Nery.
