I recently moved into house where previous owner installed nest doorbell (battery) . I am trying to set it up on my network, but it's not working and after a while the app says "Try moving closer to your Nest doorbell" and "make sure that your Nest Doorbell is on and connected to the same WiFi network as your phone".
But the app hasn't even tried to connect it to a WiFi network by this stage. So I have no idea what is going on, I am sat next to the doorbell and it is within 5 feet and the same room as my router.
Please help. Any guidance is helpful

Did the previous owner remove the battery doorbell from their Google Home app?
Did you perform a factory reset on the doorbell? You can find instructions here (using the "Factory reset" instructions, NOT the "Restart" instructions):

Hi everyone,
@Muddassirshah, thanks for reaching out to the Community. I wanted to check in and see if you still needed any help. Have you had a chance to see MplsCustomer’s response above? If yes, how was it?
Also, you can check out this guide to help you troubleshoot Nest camera and doorbell setup messages.
Let me know how it goes.
Best,
Lance

Thanks for circling back and checking out the suggested steps. Quick question: is the status light of the doorbell pulsing blue? If not, please try the additional steps below:
Let me know if you have any questions.
