Nest doorbell

Gavin311
Community Member

I’ve had a nest doorbell wired for over two years and stopped working, I’ve pulled the doorbell off the wall and plugged a usb and it works, same issue with the new replacement.

I’m getting voltage to the spade connectors 13.7volts.

I’m unsure what the issue is?

I’ve also tried to reset the doorbell but no luck. Could this be just poor connection?

Same issue. It's a brand-new camera. USB changing works fine. Power source blinks white and then dies down. Let me know if you find any solution

@Gavin311:  When you say your doorbell "stopped working", exactly what happens? (I'm guessing you have a Google Nest Hello doorbell.)

@prashantnahar:  I'm guessing you may have the battery doorbell. What happens in your case?

This is a community forum, so fellow customers can't make suggestions if we don't know the circumstances.

The Google nest door bell doesn’t charge when connected to power outlet. It only charges when connected to usb-c cable

@prashantnahar

The battery doorbell should charge if you have a compatible transformer (https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9247132) and there are no wiring issues. However, numerous Nest Hello Doorbell and 2nd Gen Google Nest Doorbell customers in this forum have had to upgrade to a 16V 30VA transformer to get their doorbells to work.

If you go to Settings | Battery when your doorbell is wired, what does it say?

It says plugged in and shows battery percentage. I expect it to show infinity sign. That what it shows on my nest outdoor camera. I am using ninety7 adapter from goggle store.

@prashantnahar

We have the battery camera as well, but I don't know if the battery doorbell is supposed to show the infinity symbol. Unlike the battery camera, the battery doorbell ALWAYS runs off of battery power: "the wires don’t directly power the doorbell. Instead, the battery is trickle charged by the power that comes through the wires, and the doorbell runs off the battery charge." (https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/11830989)

If you're using Google Nest's own "Ninety7 Indoor Power Adapter for Nest Doorbell", perhaps you should contact Support and ask them why their own adapter can't keep the doorbell charged:

https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp

Agree but as per Google the charge shouldn’t fall below 75%. Secondly, I have seen my door bell showing infinity sign when plugged to outlet. Any how, I got a replacement and let’s see show that works

I have the Gen1 Nest doorbell that was originally installed that worked fine for over two years

BG 8-24V 8A Bell Transformer Module- wired to 12 volts

I thought there may have been a malfunction and replaced the old doorbell with a new one, which was on offer new but a Gen1 doorbell.

The issue is the same with the new one nothing lights up. I’ve plugged the new one and the old one to a usb to the laptop with no issue, it all lights up and works as expected.

I’ve rest both when plugged into the usb with no issue, but when hard wired nothing happens, no lights at all and I’ve tired resting both when they’ve been hard wired.

@Gavin311

If you cannot get any power to either your original Google Nest Hello Doorbell or to your replacement Google Nest Hello Doorbell, then perhaps your doorbell transformer is inadequate. I don't know anything about your "BG 8-24V 8A Bell Transformer Module", but if the status light is off and the light ring is completely off, then the doorbell isn't receiving power (https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9268073?hl=en&sjid=16768545646473129822-NA#zippy=%2Cgoo...).

Google Nest's requirements can be found here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9247132. However, many customers, includes ourselves, have found the minimum requirements to be inadequate. We couldn't get our two Google Nest Hello Doorbells to work until we upgraded to a 16V 30VA transformer. Others in this forum have reported the same thing, both with the Google Nest Hello Doorbell and the newer 2nd Gen Google Nest Doorbell.

The transformer I’ve got is 8VA 12 Volts. The 30VA 16 Volt I can find isn’t compatible with the UK 230volt

if I replace it would this work?

@Gavin311

I have no idea. My knowledge is limited to basic doorbell transformers used in the U.S. Perhaps some UK customers who are familiar with these devices can chime in.

Hey everyone,

I’m sorry for the delay — let's get this sorted out. Could you tell us how many Nest doorbell devices you have? Also, how many chimes are connected?

@Gavin311, here is a list of recommended transformer ratings for the Nest Hello in the UK.

  • Voltage: 12 to 24 V AC
  • Power: 8 to 40 VA
  • Frequency: 50 to 60 Hz

@prashantnahar, how is the replacement Nest doorbell doing? Was your issue resolved?

Thanks for the help, MplsCustomer.

Keep us posted.

Best,

Lance

The initial issue with the doorbell camera, worked fine for two and a half years, then just stopped working, only worked when connected to the laptop. I’m not 100% what the issue was original but I would recommend the below, hopefully this will be helpful for anyone else in the UK with this issue.

I’ve replaced the transformer ABB TM30/24 set to 15VAC 12 Volt, the transformer isn’t cheap but I no-longer hear a constant buzzing anymore.

https://uk.farnell.com/abb/tm30-24/bell-transformer-2x12v-24v-2-5a/dp/3293959

I’ve re-wired the Doorbell with 1.5mm tri rated cable with 1.5 x 4mm ring crimp attached to the back of the camera. Also installed a new enclosure on that is suitable for the ABB transformer.
