Nest hello doorbell skin cracking and peeling + no longer ringing door chime!

My nest Hello doorbell has been wonderful up until now.....The skin for lack of a better term is cracking and peeling.  The doorbell is also no longer chiming my doorbell inside the home.  I receive the notifications but by the time i get them the person has already left.  I have changed the transformer, changed the chimes device and traced and double checked the wiring to ensure that its all good and has not been damaged by anything ( like mice or bugs etc.).   Help?!

@Bortsnort

You may be plagued with both of the issues that crop up on Google Nest Hello Doorbells after a year or two.

One of our Google Nest Hello Doorbells is peeling. There are 375 threads on peeling Nest Hellos in this forum, but Google Nest says they "cannot" replace ours since it's 2 years old and past the 1-year warranty. The workaround is to buy a silicone skin on Amazon to cover up the peeling shards.

Two of our Google Nest Doorbells now go offline for a minute and do not ring the indoor chime when the doorbell button is pressed. The cause is the failure of the internal battery we didn't know the doorbells had (https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Cameras-and-Doorbells/Nest-Hello-Doorbell-cuts-out-when-butto...). There are 875 replies on this thread, but Google Nest says they "cannot" replace ours since they're 2 years old and past the 1-year warranty. The workaround is to turn off the "Indoor chime" setting and rely instead on "Visitor announcements" on our Nest Hubs.

then why would we bother to have a doorbell that doesn't ring the doorbell? seems silly right?

@Bortsnort

Yes, but what else are we to do? Fortunately, we have Nest Hubs on which to receive "Visitor announcements". The alternatives are to replace the doorbells (but that's at our expense), or to cut open the doorbells and replace the faulty batteries (https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Nest+Hello+Battery+Replacement/131729) (but I'm not sure it's possible to perfectly seal up the repaired doorbell).

I would love to replace the defective Hello doorbell with a new one.

Is there a promo code that you could send my way for me to use towards a replacement?

Thank you!

Oh I would also like to add that we are missing critical footage that nest aware for some reason completely failed to record!  How can I unlock that footage from nest aware?

@Bortsnort

I don't believe there's any way to obtain footage that isn't recorded on Nest Aware. If you have video event history with a Nest Aware subscription and the camera fails to detect an event, it just isn't recorded. If you have 24/7 video history with a Nest Aware Plus subscription and the camera goes offline or otherwise fails to record something, it just isn't recorded.  I don't think it's locked somewhere.
