Hello, I'm an end user like you. It is super difficult to tell the difference between the gen 1 & 2 cameras. Here are a couple things that will get you there.
#1 if you are accessing the camera using the "NEST APP" then you have Gen 1 cameras since the Gen 2 cams don't work in that app.
#2 The Gen 2 cameras came out around September of 2021. So knowing when you bought it might point you in the direction.
#3 None of the Gen 1 cameras had the word "battery" in their name.
But getting to the matter at had your question was about "no recordings". Was it working okay and now there are no recordings all of a sudden?
If you don't have the Nest Aware subscription (free for 30 days with a new camera) then all you get is 3 hours of 'event recordings". After that the 3 hour events go away.
If you have the Nest Aware subscription then there are (2) versions. Nest Aware and Nest aware plus. Here is a link describing the difference in the 2 subscriptions.

Finally if you don't know if you have the subscription active you can go into either of the apps. Select the GEAR icon and scroll down to and look for NEST AWARE or SUBSCRIPTIONS. select it and it will tell you what you have.

If you cancel the subscription then it will keep recording until the end date. Once it expires the recored history is gone for ever. Once you re-activate then new events will be recorded but the old ones will not come back.
