Nest video server having issues / cameras appearing offline?

robertkangas

Hi all, I’ve been having an issue with viewing my Nest cameras these past few days. In both the Nest app and Google Home app (iOS on both my iPhone and iPad), multiple cameras will just appear offline most of the time. When I review the video history, there cameras are still uploading video, but the availability of the footage is just laggy (sometimes 15-60 minutes behind).

I thought I read that Google’s finally trying to migrate Nest app users to the Google Home app (3/4 of my cameras worked with the Nest app)… does anyone know if there’s some weird issue with the migration?

I have two of the older flatter black Nest Cameras, a Nest IQ, and a newer style wired Nest camera. It feels like the cameras that appear offline most often are the newer Nest camera and one of the older black Nest cameras.

I have two Ubiquiti wireless access points, little to no interference from other routers, and a 1gb fiber optic internet connection. This feels like a problem with the Google / Nest infrastructure, but I don’t see anything in their status page that indicates a wider problem. These “offline” cameras will occasionally appear online and I can review their video history, just with a lag. Any thoughts? Thanks!

There's always ongoing issues mine have been doing this for over a year since i bought them. For the last 4 weeks i haven't had access to my cameras at all because the home aop jas been faulty and googles engineers have no idea how to fix it. So i have 2 thousand plus dollars worth of paperweights

Hello everyone,

@All, thanks for reaching out here in the Community. To confirm, how far is your Nest Cameras and Nest Doorbell from your Wifi router? Are there devices or appliances (such as baby monitors, microwaves, cordless phones, etc.) near the camera? Try restarting your Nest Cameras, Nest Doorbell and your Wifi router. Let me know how it goes.

Best,
Emerson

One of my cameras that kept having a lag in the feed was less than 10 feet away from an access point. Note, most of the time, the video would show up in the app history eventually, so it makes me feel like the server was having a lag in processing and displaying video that was streamed from the cameras.

I rebooted the cameras and the access points at the time and nothing had any effect.

In the past couple of days, the live video appears to be functional without lag again, so I think something was fixed on the google / nest side.

My Doorbell is close to my main WiFi point, and I have other older Nest cameras that work fine. It's only this new Doorbell (that only works with the Home app) that is having issues. Have done reboots and the problem persists.

The one thing for me is that it always happens at a certain time of day - between 6pm-9pm. It usually comes up by morning but there's been a few times where it is down the entire following next day.

Impossible reset and re-download.

Every troubleshooting step has been done on multiple occasions. Mine have always been faulty

I'm part of the preview program and I think I got this a few months ago. After resetting factory reset and migrating to new account blah blah. Nothing worked. Finally a firmware update fixed everything nest cam battery and doorbell battery both started working again

I literally just had to rewind feed 45+ seconds and it would allow me to see the recordings. But always live video offline.

What firmware are you on for the Doorbell?

Mine still dont work and never have properly at all ever. If you're a prospective buyer take heed all you will have is ongoing issues and a camera system not fit for purpose. Buy another brand.

Having the same issue mainly with Nest wifi and wifi point going offline every day for no reason, very annoying as my router works perfectly but the nest wifi doesn't

I have a nest cam wired (first gen) that goes (or just shows) offline 2-3 times a week. The status light remains on but Home reports that it is not connected. I have not tried checking history to see if it is in fact still logging but will the next time it drops. I spent 90 minutes with support throwing crap at the wall and removing/reinstalling but it still does it. Power-cycling fixes so if I leave the house and know I'll be gone for a few hours, I will cycle power before leaving in hopes it won't drop during my absence. It is quite frustrating to be away from home and get the alert that it is down, with no way to restart remotely.

EDIT: I am now on Home preview, but this issue has been in place since before I was (and since I purchased)

Still happening for me its been never ending since day one. I have to constantly plug the charge cable in to the camera to get the cameras to sort of "wake up" and reconnect to the wifi. The signal is strong i can sit the cameras next to the wifi modem and they still go offline. Its pathetic google rubbish google just sell rubbish

I think I "fixed" this by purchasing another Nest WiFi Pro point and putting it closer to the doorbell. From what I can tell the doorbell will switch wireless bands it determines as "better" even if the signal isn't as strong. So if it switches and doesn't have a good signal, that's when you get this issue.

Ever since I installed this new point it's stayed connected to it and has remained online the whole time. It's disappointing because my main WiFi point isn't too far from the doorbell. It looks weird to have another point so close to the main point, but I guess whatever works.

I still think this is an issue on Google's end if they're allowing the Doorbell to connect to another point with low signal.

After owning the doorbell for nearly a year this has just happened to me. I now no longer have a 'live feed' as the camera is showing offline but is still chiming on the Google home speakers when the doorbell is pressed. There seems to be an issue on Google's backend causing these issues. any ETA on a fix?

This just started for me today on my doorbell battery. It is offline in the app but reacts when someone is ringing the doorbell and it is also notifying on my Nest mini's that someone is at the door so it is really connected.

No problem at all with my other 5 battery cams.

Yep this behaviour started on one of my cameras this very morning about 5hours ago. (they are right next to each other and bought on the same day).

Same problem here. Both of our cameras are suddenly "offline" while still uploading images to history. No amount of resetting helps. This is just awful. Google, fix your product!

Nestcam 2 Indoor suddenly offline Without Access, because why would I need a cam when I am at Home...

Cokeisit

Now one of my other cams are offline.

2 out of 6 is offline.

WTF Google, just fix the issue in a new release or rollback the firmware and/or the server releases.

I switched from Ring for four months ago. Can't say I'm impressed with the Nest cameras. The only thing better is that I can stream the cameras to my Nest Home.

Both my cameras suddenly went "offline", but I can still access the history so I expect them to be online, but just not able to show live view.

Both are in near proximity of either the router or extender. They have worked flawlessly for a long period. It happened simultaneously.

Doorbell and cameras just started doing this yesterday. No live feed but can see history etc. same as everyone.

Been fine for years never had an issue now this is happening. it’s absolutely something Google has done.

Offline since tonight...

9 out of 10 nest cam battery cameras now show offline. This is extremely frustrating. They are not really offline as they continue to send activity alerts through the app. There is very strong wifi coverage near all of the offline cams.

In last contact the date/time shown is 2 days ago (when they wentt offline); but since then they show activity alerts; so there has been some contact in the mean time 🙄

I have 5 legacy Nest cams and they all work in the Nest and Home app fine. The newer cams (floodlight and indoor) have all lost live view. Next month my subs will be due for the next year and I suspect that Google will be quick enough taking that, even though I am currently not getting what I am paying for.

My nest cam outdoor also lost live view. After a reset, it can no longer be set up via Google home app: In the last step, communication with Google servers fails. This makes the cam actually useless. Please help.

I have the same issue, after my reset the camera cant be added again 😑

Ok I really don't know what is happening but this is really annoying and nobody even says something from nest team.

All my cameras are now back online. Hopefully they will stay that way.

Mine (two) are online again as well.

At least Google took this seriously and acted promptly 👍👍

Google is giving up on the web based platform.  Newer battery based cameras do not work with the web application (https://home.nest.com).  Google only wants customers to use iOS or Android platform with Google Home App.  Google technical support is absolutely useless, non-english speaking uneducated novices reading off of que cards.  I was heavily invested in theses cameras, starting with Dropcam, but Google has destroyed this platform.  "Go Woke, Go Broke."  I DO NOT BUY GOOGLE. 😡
