Nest wired doobell

Hi ,

We have 2x google nest IQ cameras, with no  issues for about 4 years. Just added the Nest wired doorbell. I fitted with Puck but it did not work so left out and used existing chime with/transformer and worked fine.

Wiring diagram on nest does not really tally up with UK.

About a month later we started to get intermittent chimes which get progressively worse. Checked voltage and 13v, checked wiring and OK.

Even with chimes turned off, no quiet time and chime duration off we still getting this issue!

Anyone has any other suggestion to fix issue.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Malc2025,

Thank you for reaching out to the community. I'm sorry that you're experiencing troubles with your Nest Wired Doorbell that it sounds an intermittent chime. I understand how frustrating this can be. Let's work together for a solution.

For your concern, please make sure the following:

  • For your device, make sure to use the chime connector that came with your Nest Wired Doorbell.
  • Confirm that the Nest Wired Doorbell doesn't have any loose or exposed wires that could touch another wire or the Nest doorbell wall plate.
  • Verify that all wire connections are tight, secure, and free from corrosion or paint.
  • Please re-seat (disconnect and reconnect) all wires and ensure the connections are tight and secure of the Nest Wired Doorbell and chime.

Let me know how it goes and keep me posted.

Regards,

Byron

Hi Byron,

Thanks for the reply. I think I mentioned I connected the chime connector (puck) and the transformer/chime just buzzed, so Left if off and all worked for a ~month.  On our transformer/chime there are two wires coming in (240v) and 2 wires going out to the doorbell (12v). I connected the chime connector/puck to the 2 x12v connection. Was this correct? (as said transformer/chime just buzzed)

All connections are tight and there is no corrosion

Hi Malc2025,

Thank you for your response.

Based on the information provided. Please do the following:

  • The chime might buzz when the Nest Wired Doorbell is configured for a digital chime, but it's actually connected to a mechanical chime. In this case, please access the settings for your Nest Wired doorbell and change the chime type from digital to mechanical.
  • Another cause is the Nest doorbell transformer isn't supplying sufficient power. We recommend upgrading to 16-24 VAC, 30 VA transformers to ensure the Nest Wired doorbell receives enough power.
  • Also, make sure the Nest Wired Doorbell circuit is complete. Here is a picture of the diagram installation:

Hi ByronP,

Thanks, I can't see the change digital to mechanical chime only indoor chime On/Off it is currently set to Off.

The transformer does not fluctuate its constant at 13v.

The wiring diagram is nothing like what we have here the transformer is integrated into the chime.

This means A/C in 2 cables out put to doorbell 2 cables that's it,  the chime connector on the one I have  only has 2 wires.

Malc.

Hi Malc2025,

Thank you for your response and detailed information.

For this concern, please try to do the following:

Restart your Nest Wired Doorbell:

  • With a release tool that comes with the box, disconnect the doorbell from the back plate. Customers might also use a thumbtack or paper clip.
  • Near the top of the doorbell, insert the release tool, thumbtack, or paper clip into the hole (reset button).
  • Hold the reset button down until the light on the doorbell turns off (about 10 seconds), then release the button.

Let me know how it goes and keep me posted.
