Nest wires doorbell 2nd generation - constant buzzing

Hawk2383

Hello - I installed a new 2nd generation wired doorbell last week, and it worked the first few days without any issues but then developed a constant buzzing sounds, as the mechanical chimes are constantly fluttering. The chime connector is connected to the transformer and front connectors with the existing wires. The transformer is a 16V 10VA, which should be compatible. I’ve triple checked all the wiring and connections and everything is appropriately setup. Does anybody have any suggestions? I’ve looked at other forums and it seemed like situations where the chimes had not been connected. Does it sound like maybe the transformer has gone bad and now needs replaced? If that’s the case, does anybody have a recommendation for one? Thanks for any feedback.

Many customers in this forum--including us--have reported having to upgrade to 16V 30VA transformers to get both 1st and 2nd gen Google Nest doorbells to work correctly.

You could also check the wiring diagrams in this Help topic to make sure your chime puck is wired correctly:

There is also this Help topic on doorbell issues:

Lastly, there have been more than a few posts in this forum from customers who had defective 2nd gen chime pucks.

Hey folks,

@Hawk2383, I wanted to check in and see if you still need help with this. Have you had a chance to review MplsCustomer’s response above? If yes, how was it?

If you still need help, take clear photos of the following:

  • A photo of the wiring of the chime.
  • A photo of the wiring of the transformer, if it’s easily accessible.
  • A photo of the wiring of the chime connector.

Below are the steps on how to upload a photo or video:

  1. Hit reply or start a new post.
  2. Click Insert Photos.
  3. Choose an image source location.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions.
  5. Also, you can tap the "Drag and Drop" option. The maximum attachment is 5 MB.

Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.

Thanks for the help, MplsCustomer.
