New Google/Nest Cam Will Not Allow Selection of WiFi Network

gospelman

I replaced my older IQ indoor cams with the newer Google Home cams. When setting up the cameras I want to use a different network from the other old Nest devices in my home. But no matter what, the new camera always finds an old device (Nest Protect) to set the WiFi network and does NOT allow me to select the network I desire.

How does one prevent a new camera/device from using another device to select the wifi network?

Frustrated.

That is a great question.  The only thing I can think of is power down the WIFI on the network you don't want and also power down all NEST devices on that network and then add the new cam as a new device in a new location.  But I'm not sure you want to do this as I don't think you will be able to see all the cams in the one app without logging out and logging in under a different gmail address.

But one other thing for you to consider before moving forward.  The limitation on the new cameras are significant.  You may want to return them and just buy some used old gen cams on ebay.  The new cams do not work with the NEST app.  They ONLY work with the Google Home app which lacks A LOT of features.  Also, there is no way to view the new cams on a computer.  If you read thru this forum you will see what I'm talking about.  I returned mine months ago after I got them.
