New NEST google camera doesn’t work on nest app?

KHewitt

So just bought this new nest outdoor battery camera and from what I am reading they no longer allow it to be connected to the NEST app? Am I understanding this right?

The Camera and security app no longer works for the CAMERA. I have to go to the google home app that does NOT show me any of my cameras when I open it like the handy Nest app, nor all my temperatures in my house.

Should I just trash all my cameras, protect , thermostat and door bell now and save myself the pain of not being able to properly see my cameras on an app that isn’t build for cameras and thermostat

No warning on anything stating this no longer works. Kind of ridiculous google. Super super disappointed. I was really looking forward to this camera.
I have always been a supporter of the google nest products but this will make me leave and stop telling my friends to use this product.
Hopefully see some major updates and changes soon or I might as well trash it all and go to Ring.

Hey there, @KHewitt.

Thank you for your feedback on this issue, I fully understand the frustrations of not having your new Nest Cams in the Nest App or available on https://bit.ly/3HtBgJC web app. I can imagine having to use two different apps at the moment is quite daunting, and could lead to frustration.

However, the new Nest cameras and doorbell are exclusive to the Home app because we wanted to create an integrated experience with your speakers and displays. A Nest Aware subscription applies to all of your cameras, speakers, and displays in the same home structure. Thank you for your continued patience, and support. I am more than happy to assist you further with this inquiry if you wish. Please let me know.

Best Regards,

Brad.

With this new “integration”, I do not see the ability to use my nest temperature sensors in the google home app, is this another loss of a product I can’t use coming in the near future?

@KHewitt

I am afraid that those items are not available in the Google Home App as they are part of the Nest-specific environment. It is not built into the Google Home App. You will still need your Nest app to control those devices.

Brad.

Yes, you are understanding it right.

Many of us have discovered to our surprise that the new Google Nest doorbells and cameras we purchased starting in the fall of 2021 work ONLY in the Google Home app, and NOT in the Google Nest app or the home.nest.com website. In some posts, Google says "we are committed to bringing the experiences and Nest devices you have come to love in the Nest app into the Home app" (Sept. 29, 2021 post).

If you click on "Camera" near the top of the Google Home app, you can see camera feeds for all of your cameras and doorbells (it comes up slower than in the Nest app), but you can only configure/administer the newer cameras there.

The Google Nest Doorbell (battery) also seems to have issues staying charged in colder climates even when wired (https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Cameras-and-Doorbells/Cold-weather-concerns-with-Nest-Doorbel...). Also, even when wired, you can't get 24/7 history.

We have one Google Nest Camera (Battery), and when plugged in with the optional power cable, it stays charged even in cold Minnesota weather and can provide 24/7 history with Nest Aware Plus.  And we have other Nest cameras and doorbells, so now we're a two-app family indefinitely.

Google's rationale for this is posted in two blogs in this forum, along with many customer reactions:
