New Nest Wired Camera Setup

WE have a new Google Nest wired camera and have not been able to set it up. It can be added via the Nest app and or through Google home but stops and get an error message that it is not able to communicate to Google, thus asking for a factory reset. We did that a couple times and still the same error message. Bottom-line not able to add the device. Tried to add near WIFI router and still unsuccessful.

@mhanaoka

There are NO Google Nest cameras that can be installed in either the Google Nest app or the Google Home app.  We have some of both.

1st gen Google Nest cameras and doorbells can ONLY installed in the Google Nest app, and will then automatically appear in the Google Home app if you're logging onto both apps with the same Google Account and accessing the same Google Nest "home/structure".

2nd gen Google Nest cameras and doorbells, which started to be come available in Sept. 2021, can ONLY be installed in the Google Home app, and do NOT appear in the Google Nest app.

Hello everyone,

@mhanaoka, thanks for reaching out here in the Community. In case you have the 2nd gen of Nest Camera, it will require you to install it through the Google Home app. For the setup, you need to reset it first to the factory default and make sure it has a pulsing blue light indicating that it's ready to connect.

To reset:

  1. Locate the reset hole on the bottom of the camera head. It’s between the power cord and the camera neck.
  2. Insert a paper clip, thumbtack or similar into the hole. Press and hold down.
  • At 10 seconds, the status light will blink yellow four times, and you’ll hear a countdown tone.
  • At 12 seconds, the status light will be solid yellow. When the Nest Camera begins resetting, you’ll hear a confirmation tone.

       3. Release the button. Your Nest Camera will restore to its factory settings.

       4. After the factory reset, your Nest Camera will appear as “Offline” in the app until you remove it.

I appreciate the help, MplsCustomer.

Regards,

Emerson

Hello Emerson... Do I do this while it is plugged in?

Hi mhanaoka,

Thanks for getting back to us. I'm not sure if you have the wired or battery type of Nest Camera but during reset, it should have a power to check the light status.

Best,

Emerson
