Older nest doorbell (wired) won't connect to wi-wi or app, factory reset 45 sec no yellow

I've had the nest doorbell for years without issue. No changes to wi-fi router or service. Excellent signal to phone, laptop, other devices when placed in the same area. Latest update on app.  Restarted phone. Connected to wi-fi on phone with all bars. The last couple of weeks I've been getting "not online" messages that resolved on their own. Five days ago the doorbell was offline again but didn't reconnect in it's own. I used the app to update wi-fi and it worked again. Now the doorbell is offline again and won't connect. I went through the steps on the nest app, tried the extender, and deleted the doorbell from the app, deleted the app, and reinstalled the app again. Now I can't get the doorbell on the app. I tried the reset. I tried the factory reset holding both buttons over 45 seconds several times. I have yet to get a yellow light at all. The blue button will occasionally glow and the green led will flicker. The doorbell chime works just fine.  Using the app it'll say "finding doorbell" then "connecting to doorbell" then error code nc021, 022, or 023. I've been working on this for two days now.

Same thing happened to me.  Both of my Nest Hello doorbells went offline on 6/26/24 and have not been able to get them back online.  Never had a problem with them in over 5 years and WiFi signal to both is strong.  Out of town for 2 months, so it sucks even more.  Let me know if you find a solution.  Thx.

Ours went off when we went out of town too. So frustrating!

Hi folks,

Thanks for reaching out to the Community. I'm sorry to hear about the connectivity issues with your Nest Hello doorbells. Don't worry, I'm here to help! Let's take a look and see what's going on.

There are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially get yours back online. Here's what you can do:

1. Basic steps and restarts:

  • Nest Hello: Restart your Nest Hello by pressing and holding the button on the front for about 10 seconds. You should see a white light flash.
  • Wi-Fi Router: Restart your Wi-Fi router by unplugging it from the power outlet for about 30 seconds, then plugging it back in and waiting for it to fully boot up (usually 2 minutes).
  • Nest App: Close the Nest app completely and relaunch it on your phone or tablet. Make sure you're using the latest version of the Nest app on your smartphone or tablet. Updates often include bug fixes and compatibility improvements.

2. Verify Wi-Fi Network Connection:

  • Other Devices: Check if other Wi-Fi devices in your home are connected and functioning normally. If not, the issue might lie with your Wi-Fi network itself.
  • Signal Strength: Ensure your Nest Hello doorbell is receiving a strong Wi-Fi signal. If it's far from your router, consider:
    • Moving it closer: A stronger signal can improve connection stability.
    • Using a Wi-Fi extender: If relocating isn't feasible, an extender can boost the signal in that area.

3. Advanced Troubleshooting:

  • Check Network Security Settings: In rare cases, your router's security settings might be interfering with the connection. Try temporarily disabling firewall settings or MAC filtering (if enabled) to see if it allows the connection. Remember to re-enable these security features after testing.
  • 2.4 GHz vs 5 GHz Network: Some routers offer separate 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi bands. While 5 GHz offers faster speeds, it has a shorter range. Try connecting your Nest Hello to the 2.4 GHz band initially, as it might have trouble connecting to the 5 GHz band at a distance. You can switch to 5 GHz later if the connection is stable and strong.
  • Nest camera error codes: NC021, NC022, NC023: These errors mean your camera couldn’t connect to your phone through Bluetooth. You’ll need to make sure Bluetooth is working and is enabled on your device.

Follow the steps from this guide to Fix Nest camera or doorbell Wi-Fi connection issues and to Troubleshoot Nest camera and doorbell setup messages.

Let me know if you need further assistance.

Regards,

Mario
