Powering Nest Cam via Outdoor light socket adapter? Will this setup work?

I installed a Nest Camera (Battery) outside and my only easy way to plug it in is to run the power cable to an outdoor light via a socket adapter.  The outside light would only be on for about 6-7 hours a day (dusk to 1am).

Would the camera operate OK if it the power was only connected for 6-7 hours each day?

I assume it would run off battery at times the power cable connected but is "off"

TIA

Hello Eric,

Thanks for reaching out to the Community. I’d be happy to help you with your Nest Cam (battery). Let’s check it out.

The Nest Cam (battery) can be connected to a power outlet using the included USB cable. This will power the camera, so it doesn't need to use the battery.

Just to be sure we’re on the same page, is the Nest camera connected to the included charging cable and then to the power adapter, which in turn is plugged into the light socket? Also, when the outside light is on, does the battery state show ‘plugged in" and the infinity symbol?

Here’s how to check the battery state:

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. Tap Favorites or Devices .
  3. Tap and hold your device's tile More More menu Settings .
  4. Tap Battery.
  5. If the camera is not using it’s battery, you’ll see the ∞ symbol on the camera’s battery info

Check out this help guide for more tips on how to save battery for Nest cameras and doorbells.

Keep me posted.

Best,

Lance
