Recovering video from when camera was off network

LDiablo
Community Member

I have an Outdoor Nest Cam with Nest Aware Plus subscription for 24/7video history.

We had severe hail storm and during two minutes when worst of storm destroyed my car, the video history only shows message “Make sure the camera is on and connected to Wi-Fi”

Our network was down for hours but I have event history. For periods between those events, the usual constant video is missing.

My understanding is that all video should have uploaded from local camera memory to servers after network connection was re-established, yet I cannot find a way to get this gap to appear. Any suggestions?

@LDiablo

It depends on what camera you have. If you have the Google Nest Outdoor Camera indicated in your post (we have several), it has no local storage capability.

The newer cameras and doorbells have some local storage; the details are below. But if it's not available when you access your history, then it wasn't captured.

"Here are some more details about how local video storage works when your battery-powered camera or doorbell is offline:"

"The Nest Cam (wired), Nest Cam (battery), Nest Doorbell (wired, 2nd gen), and Nest Doorbell (battery) have enough internal memory to store up to one hour of recorded events when they're offline."

"If your camera is using its backup battery, it will honor its maximum video clip length setting. This means that if your camera is recording an event, it will cut off and save the clip even if the event is still happening."

"When the Nest Cam (wired) or Nest Cam (battery) is connected to power and has a 24/7 Video History subscription, they will record continuously for about 8 minutes before switching to event recording."
