I find it impossible to believe this, but apparently on the newer Nest recordings, one can only download video clips if Google software records the activity as an EVENT. I have looked high and low, and apparently, we cannot create a custom clip from our timeline. Even if we subscribe to 24/7 recording.
The background is serious: In my case, there was a shooting of two people a block away from my home last week. The perps cut through our backyard and ran right to the street down our driveway. They fled right in front of our Nest Aware Spotlight Camera. They ran in pairs of two. They passed through using the same path about 2 minutes apart. (2 guys, then another 2 guys just a bit later).
The camera recorded one pair of suspects as an "event." I was able to download that because the app allows me to download "events." For some reason, it did not designate the passage of the other two as an event, BUT since I have (and pay for) continuous recording, I found them on that recording.
Yet, unlike my ancient Nest cameras, which worked with a web app and let us create a clip from anywhere on the video timeline, my supposedly super improved system (1) does NOT allow me to use a web browser and (2) allows me NO way to create a custom clip on my phone. I am trying to save the recording to send to the police. The 10-day limit on 24/7 retention is coming up and that clip will be deleted. There simply MUST be a way for me to save any portion of my 24/7 timeline. Otherwise, why do I pay for it? Someone HELP.

Sounds like you should stay out of it honestly… ratting on some killers doesn’t sound very wise. Prob was something drug related or gang related? Plus if the cop was that worried about your clip he would come to your house and look at it himself. Sounds like they have it under control honestly buddy. Don’t go putting yourself in possible danger for no reason

Some customers in this forum have used their phone's capability to record the video while playing back the footage they want to capture.

Hello everyone,
@Achapar, thanks for reaching out and for sharing what happened. We understand that you wanted to help with the investigation. While this feature is not available with the Google Home app, you may use your phone's default recording app to record the specific event you need. Hit this link for more information. I hope this helps. Let us know if you have other questions in mind.
@Peace101, new Nest Cameras can only be controlled or set up with the Google Home app.
I appreciate your response, MplsCustomer and Pdxland95.
Regards,
Emerson

Wow, my Nest cameras were great and recorded 24/7 and now I can only find events on the goggle home app. I am following because this is not good. My cameras were perfect until google came along. I hope I'm wrong. Good luck.
