Saving, or accessing multip[le hours of past video footage.

Ruff-N-It

We use Nest cameras at our small business as well as at our home.

At our small business, we have an employee who is claiming she was injured on the job her very first day at work. She has hired a law form.

I have reviewd the footage from the date in question & saved many shorter clips. However, I have received a letter form the former employee's lawyer stating that we must save all tyoes of info, including any video . I need to save the footage from her 6.5 hour shift on several cameras.

How can I do this as we can apparently only save 3 hours of video clips?

Thanks in advance for any assistance!

Copy to SD card all you have and send to them.

Tomorrow Needs You Today

I greatly appreciate your response. However, there seems to be another dilemma. Once I save the clip to an external memory device (flash drive) & delete the clip from my Nest account, it is also no longer available on the drive.

My Nest account, via Nest Aware, ahhs 3 hours of data storage. I need to save 6 hours of video from 2-3 different cameras each for a worker's comp situation. So, I need the saved clips to be available once they're deleted from my Nest account in order to free up space for other clips.

Does this make sense?

It's hard to answer all of your questions because I don't know whether you have the older Google Nest cameras that work in the Google Nest app or the newer Google Nest cameras that work only in the Google Home app.

If you have the older Google Nest cameras that work in the Google Nest app, you can save clips to the Google Nest cloud (they don't have a good name for this space), which is where you have a limit of 3 hours of video clips. But you can also then go to the home.nest.com website and download any or all of those clips to your computer by selecting the clip and clicking on the download option.

Once you've downloaded those clips, you can delete them from the Google Nest cloud, freeing up your 3 hours of storage, and saving some more clips.

Hello everyone,

@Ruff-N-It, thanks for posting here in the Community and for sharing your concern with us. Were you able to read the information and check the link that MplsCustomer has shared? In case you don't have the Nest Aware subscription and you have the new Nest Camera, you'll only have 3 hours of event video history. Hit this link to know more about the Nest Aware subscription. Let us know if you have more questions in mind.

I appreciate the help, MplsCustomer and FranklyLangrell.

Best,
Emerson

@Ruff-N-It

The history that you have available for download depends on which camera you have and whether you have a Nest Aware subscription. If you have one of the newer cameras that work ONLY in the Google Home app and you do NOT have a Nest Aware subscription, you only have access to events that occurred in the last 3 hours:

These are Google Nest's instructions for downloading video clips:

I'd love your response to the reply I posted above to MplsCustomer if you have the opportunity.

TIA!

I'm sorry, the response was to FranklyLangrell above.

Brad,

I have older Nest cameras. I can access them via nest.com & the Nest app on my phone. I can also access them via the Google Home app. I do have Nest Aware on all cameras.

I ended up reaching out to Google Support as I couldn't figure out how to save the video to a flash drive. I was able to save video to my desktop. But when I then went in & deleted the video at home.nest.com, the video was no longer available where I had saved it to my desktop. When I would click on the file on my desktop, I would get a message saying the file is no longer available via the internet.

They have sent me a couple of links. However, the one that is to explain "How To Download Your Google Data" was an invalid link. I hope to receive a new link soon.

They said that I would need to do it through Google Home, rather than thru the, I guess, old Nest.com site. I am having to save this video for a Worker's Comp claim. So, it is crucial that I get it done ASAP! If you, or anyone else on this thread, have any further advice, I am certainly open to it!

Thank you all for your help & generosity with your time!

John

Sincerely,

John

I have reached out earlier this morning. Hoping to receive a response soon!

Thank you all again!

@Ruff-N-It

I guess I don't know how deleting video clips on Google Nest's servers at home.nest.com could delete files on you computer.

If I save clips and then download clips from home.nest.com, they get downloaded to my "Downloads" folder on my iMac because that's the location I have configured. If I delete a video clip on home.nest.com, either by clicking on the garbage can icon for the clip while on the "Video Clips" screen or by selecting the clip and circling on "Delete", the clip gets deleted from Google Nest's servers on home.nest.com, but the corresponding clip I've previously downloaded to my "Downloads" folder does NOT get deleted.

I don't believe there is any way to go through the Google Home app to download clips for cameras that work on the Google Nest app.

The link I provided earlier for saving and downloading clips seems to be valid for me.

I'll give it another shot & rather than saving it to the Desktop see if I can access it via the Downloads folder. Being half-butt computer illiterate doesn't help in these situations:(

Thanks again for your help! Hopefully I was missing something.
