The save clip option is gone from controls tab in the Google home app.

It sounds like you have only 1st gen Google Nest cameras and doorbells. I didn't realize that because the original post on this thread was about the "Save clip" option somehow missing in the Google Home app for the 2nd gen floodlight camera.
1st gen Google Nest cameras and doorbells are those that get installed in the Google Nest app.
2nd gen Google Nest cameras and doorbells are those released starting in Sept. 2021 that get installed ONLY in the Google Home app and do NOT work in the Google Nest app.
We have some of both.
In the Google Home app, you have only partial access to history for 1st gen cameras and doorbells, and that does NOT include the ability to download clips UNLESS, as I noted above, you have TRANSFERRED your 1st gen cameras (1st gen DOORBELLS are not eligible) from the Google Nest app to the beta "Public Preview" version of the Google Home app (https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Blog/Nest-Cam-Outdoor-1st-gen-expanded-support-rolling-out-in...).
We do NOT have the "Public Preview" version and we have NOT transferred any of our 1st gen cameras from the Google Nest app to the Google Home app because the Google Home app still lacks so many Nest app functions:

I believe you have to be watching the video of the clip you want to save. As you are watching it you hi the 3 horizontal lines in the lower left corner and then the SAVE CLIP option appears.

That option is not available on any of my cameras when I select an event I want to save as a clip. The directions for clips says:
I don’t have this option
I am on iOS,15.7.801-20-2024 05:22 PM
Hmmmmm, I'm running IOS 17 and I'm running GOOGLE HOME APP version 3.11.104. I'm thinking the next thing to check is the version of the Google Home app on your phone and/or see if there is an update available.

The red arrow points to the "Control" to click on to get the "Save clip" option. We're on the latest iOS and Google Home app versions as well.

I don’t even get the screenshot you show above. Just a list of my full history is available for each camera and none of the options you show. What you show above is what I see on the Nest app, not Google home. I even restarted my phone to see if that would fix it to no avail. I can’t figure out how to attach a screenshot to this response to show you as there’s no option for attachments

Are you enrolled in public preview? From what I’ve read, I think that’s the issue. I’ve enrolled. Not sure how long it will take to see the screen you posted & the ability to make clips but hope to see it soon
01-21-2024 07:04 AM
We are NOT on the beta "Public Preview" version of the Google Home app.
The screen shot I attached above is for our 2nd gen battery camera, so there is no comparable view in the Google Nest app.
In the Google Home app--at least for 2nd gen cameras--we can toggle between a timeline or a list of events by clicking on the "Timeline" or "Events" icons, as documented in the Help topic below.

Because we're not on the "Public Preview" version, we have not transferred any of our 1st gen cameras from the Google Nest app to the Google Home app:
I wonder if the fact that you're on iOS 15 instead of iOS 17 has anything to do with what you're not seeing.
01-21-2024 11:47 AM
i downloaded the google home app on another phone running iOS 17. That isn’t the problem. Still not seeing what you’ve shown in your screenshot. I have an electric nest doorbell, a drop cam pro and three dropcams ( I guess they’re 1st gen?) I’ve not updated any of my dropcams yet to google nest cams. So I’m not getting any timeline of events in the Google app & no ability to make clips. I only have that ability now in the Nest app. I don’t know the difference between 1st and 2nd generation. I haven’t been keen on the Google Home app so far so I was hoping to try out these key important features before making a decision whether or not to stay

P.S. Support for Dropcams is being discontinued on April 8, 2024, as Google Nest announced April 7, 2023 (see below), so I'm pretty sure those cameras will never be eligible for TRANSFER to the Google Home app. You should have gotten an email last April with an offer to replace your Dropcams at a discount if your cameras were on a Nest Aware subscription the month before.
01-21-2024 01:10 PM
I’m aware of the change in April which is why I am attempting to tryout some of the preferred features that I like in the Google home app before making a decision on whether or not I want to cut ties with Google. Sounds like theres not much hope come April the same features will be available. I did get 2 free Google cams but I don’t like toggling between apps to use them so I’ll connect them when I have to in April. However, if I understand you, the ability to make clips & view history are available on these two new Google cams? Sorry, this is all confusing
01-21-2024 01:25 PM
You can view history for your 2 new 2nd gen indoor cameras in the Google Home app and download clips of detected events (see the Help topic I linked to earlier for toggling between Timeline and Events), but you have to switch to the beta "Public Preview" version to be able to CREATE clips to download.

Yes, you can save a recorded clip in the Google Home app that i'm using which is version 3.11.104 and I have the PREVIEW mode activated. You can not only save clips that are recorded 'events' but if you have the NEST AWARE PLUS subsctiption you can park the play head anywhere and save clips up to 5 minutes long in 30 second increments. Keep in mind that in the Google Home app the clip is saved to your Photos library (on an iPhone) and it is up to you to share it from there as you see fit. Sadly, they no longer provide the function in the Nest app where you can save a clip and just send someone a link to view it. I'm pretty disappointed about this.
Did you look to see what version of the Google Home app you are on?
01-21-2024 01:47 PM
I mentioned in one of my prior posts I have the most updated version and of the Google Hone app downloaded. Frankly I’m very pleased you can save the clips to your iPhone. I never liked how Nest saved them in their cloud and on your phone.
As for the wired doorbell cam. Will I still have access to that in Google Home after 4/24? And will I be able to save clips from it at that time as I can’t currently. I just bought the doorbell cam right before the announcement of the change last year so I hope it wasn’t a waste of money
thank you for your help!

The reply from MplsCustomer is spot on. Google Nest products are now in a 2-year state of transition and they still have a number of steps to complete.
Because the Google Home app still lacks functionality you may want to purchase used GEN1 Nest Cameras from Ebay and stay with the NEST APP for now. Google continues to improve the GOOGLE HOME app but they are not there yet in my opinion.

One more question off topic- any ideas how to eliminate the glare when placing the new Google cams on a window? This is an issue during the day only because the window gets the early morning sun & evening sunset. Nighttime- not much issue.

We have three Google Nest Hello Doorbells that work in the Google Nest app and can be accessed to some extent in the Google Home app. They are NOT affected by Google Nest's April 8, 2024 discontinuance of support for Dropcams. I don't know when Google Nest will let us transfer Google Nest Hello Doorbells from the Google Nest app to the beta "Public Preview" version of the Google Home app (which would allow saving clips), or when or whether they are going to add the missing Nest app functions to the Google Home app. I'd like to see both happen before we transfer cameras to the Google Home app; we've already been using 2 apps since Sept. 2021.
I don't have any ideas on addressing glare when cameras are mounted behind a window. I know reflection from the IR light used for night vision can also cause glare off of the window.
