Stop Nest outdoor cam recording/uploading motion

Brian3

Hi, I just set up the outdoor cam and am in my nest aware trial period. I have 3 cams and have them set to only send me notifications when people are recorded. That's behaving correctly but in the event recordings I see the cameras are filming and uploading motion video, using up valuable bandwidth. How do I stop motion video recording and uploading?

Hey there.

You will want to go to your settings and turn off motion video/alerts. That way, it will not send you anymore.

Best regards,

Brad.

Hi Brad, what I'm asking for, as I tried to describe in my original post, is a setting that will stop the camera from recording and uploading motion, in order to save my bandwidth. I am not getting motion alerts, but I am seeing these events being recorded. I want to stop that recording and uploading. It has nothing to do with notifications.

Regards,

Brian

Hi there,

I apologize for my late response and thank you for all of your patience while waiting for a reply. Please go over this article for more information, but you can also change which events your camera detects in event history settings.

Note: When you turn an event type off for a camera, the app will tell you that your camera will no longer send notifications for that event. You’ll need to turn the event type back on to receive notifications for that activity type.

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Best Regards,

Brad

I read the linked article and followed the recommended steps, opening the Home app, selecting the desired camera, and tapping settings. The google support doc, under "turn off seen events", is telling me to then select "Events". THERE IS NO "Events" OPTION UNDER SETTINGS. All that shows on the settings page is the following: General, Name, Room, Video Recording On/Off, Delete VIdeo History. That's it. I'm really disappointed at the disconnect between the directions and what's actually in the app. I am running version 2.47.78.2. My trial period ends in about 2 weeks and I don't see myself continuing with this service if I can't resolve this. That said, I appreciate your trying to help.

Regards,
Brian

@Brian3

Thank you for your feedback! I am sorry to see that you are missing the suggested option. Are you looking for this in the Nest App or the Google Home app?

Best regards,

Brad.

I looked for it in both.

@Brian3

Do you have a Nest Aware subscription? Just turn off Video Recording then.

Best regards,

Brad.
